KOOPA TROOPA
The Koopa Troopa is one of the most iconic, recognizable turtle-like creatures in gaming history, created by Shigeru Miyamoto for Nintendo's Mario franchise. Serving primarily as the core foot soldiers of Bowser's Koopa Troop, these shell-clad characters also appear as friendly allies, party hosts, and playable racers across dozens of titles.
Cronologia
Biografia

The Koopa Troopa is a tortoise-like species and the primary member of the broader Koopa species within the Mushroom Kingdom.
Characterized by their yellow bodies, round heads, beak-like noses, and colorful removable shells, Koopa Troopas are most famous as the main infantry within Bowser's military force, the Koopa Troop.
Despite their common role as foot soldiers tasked with stopping Mario, not all Koopa Troopas are hostile; many reside in peaceful towns, operate shops, host party events, or assist heroes on their adventures. In battle and everyday life, a Koopa Troopa's shell serves as its primary defense and defining feature. Beneath their shells, Koopa Troopas wear white undershirts and have rounded bodies. While green and red are the most widespread shell colors, Koopa Troopas display a wide range of colors and personalities, ranging from timid patrolmen to high-speed competitive runners like Koopa the Quick.
Storia

The conceptual origin of the Koopa Troopa traces back to the 1983 arcade title Mario Bros., which introduced four-legged turtle enemies called Shellcreepers. When designing Super Mario Bros.
in 1985, creator Shigeru Miyamoto and Nintendo modified the mechanics to allow Mario to jump directly onto enemies, giving birth to the official Koopa Troopa.
Unlike Shellcreepers, stomping a Koopa Troopa forced it into its shell, which could then be kicked across the stage as a projectile. The Japanese name for the character, Nokonoko, translates to 'walking unconcernedly,' reflecting the calm, careless movement of green-shelled variants. The English name 'Koopa' is derived from Bowser's Japanese name, Kuppa (itself named after the Korean dish gukbap), paired with 'Troopa' as a play on military troopers.

Evoluzione
The visual and behavioral evolution of the Koopa Troopa spans four decades. In their 1983 precursor appearance as Shellcreepers, they walked on four legs and could not be stomped. Upon their official debut in Super Mario Bros. (1985), they became bipedal or quadrupedal turtles whose behavioral artificial intelligence was signified by shell color: Green Koopas walked off ledges indiscriminately, while Red Koopas turned back at edges out of timidity.
Super Mario World (1990) standardized their bipedal stance, giving them shoes with beige soles, rounded noses, and the ability to be knocked entirely out of their shells, revealing white undershirts. In Super Mario 64, they received synthesized audio sound effects including whoops and wheezes, alongside secret pink or blue shorts hidden under their carapaces. While 3D platformers like Super Mario Galaxy temporarily reverted them to quadrupedal forms for swimming, modern titles and Illumination's 2023 film adaptation expanded their aesthetic even further, adding military helmets, tactical armor, spiked shoulder pads, and handheld weapons.
Da Collezione
For Nintendo collectors, Koopa Troopas represent essential army-builder figures across action figure lines, statue collections, and interactive memorabilia.
Leading manufacturers like Jakks Pacific have produced extensive lines of 2.5-inch and 4-inch articulated Koopa Troopa action figures in multiple shell colors (Green, Red, Yellow, and Blue), alongside flying Paratroopa variants, making them extremely popular for display dioramas. In addition to traditional action figures by brands like Bandai S.H.Figuarts and LEGO Super Mario expansion sets, highly sought-after collectibles include life-sized plush green/red shells and interactive Super Nintendo World power-up bands. Highly detailed statues and rare early vintage merchandise from the NES era remain prized items for franchise completionists looking to build out Bowser's army.

Unlike real-world turtles, Koopa Troopas can easily remove their shells and wear undershirts.
