KOOPA PARATROOPA
Koopa Paratroopas (often known as Paratroopas, Para-Koopas, or Sky Troopers) are a winged variant of the Koopa Troopa species in Nintendo's Super Mario franchise. First appearing in the 1985 NES classic Super Mario Bros., they serve primarily as airborne hazards in Bowser's army, though they have also featured as playable characters in sports and racing spin-offs.
Cronologia
Biografia
Koopa Paratroopas are winged members of the Koopa Troopa species that serve as air defense soldiers within Bowser's forces. Across the Mushroom Kingdom, they patrol skies, span large voids, and guard strategic platforming locations, acting as airborne obstacles for Mario and Luigi.
When stomped on from above, their removable wings fall off, causing them to revert to standard ground-bound Koopa Troopas. While predominantly encountered as common foot soldiers in 2D and 3D platformers, individual Paratroopas have taken on distinct roles throughout the series.
In Paper Mario, a mail-carrying Paratroopa named Parakarry joins Mario as a key party member. Paratroopas have also stepped into the spotlight as playable competitors in multiplayer spin-offs, including Mario Tennis, Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, Mario Superstar Baseball, and Mario Kart Wii.
Storia
Created as part of the original enemy roster for Super Mario Bros. in 1985, Koopa Paratroopas were introduced to add verticality and dynamic movement patterns to standard enemy encounters.
Red-shelled variants debuted in World 1-3 flying along set vertical paths, while green-shelled variants debuted in World 2-1 hopping horizontally toward the player.
Over four decades, Paratroopas have expanded from simple pixelated hazards into key components of Mario's level design toolset (such as the wing mechanics in Super Mario Maker) and cinematic figures, featuring prominently as Bowser's armored aerial infantry in The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023).

Evoluzione
When first introduced in 1985's Super Mario Bros., Koopa Paratroopas were depicted in artwork and sprites as quadrupedal tortoises with small wings attached to their shells. With the launch of Super Mario World (1990), their design was updated alongside standard Koopa Troopas to be bipedal, gaining shoes and a upright stance.
Wing lengths have varied significantly depending on the artistic style of each game: titles like Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Paper Mario, Yoshi's Island DS, and Super Princess Peach featured oversized wings, whereas main 3D titles feature shorter, compact wings. Auditory and gameplay elements also evolved over time. Initially using standard Koopa Troopa voice clips in Mario Tennis (N64), Paratroopa sound effects were pitch-shifted higher starting with Mario Kart: Double Dash!! (2003) to create a distinct voice. Over the years, their gameplay role evolved from basic enemy hazards to selectable racing drivers, custom level creation tools in Super Mario Maker, and fully animated cinematic soldiers in The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023).

Due to palette limitations in the original Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, green Paratroopas appearing in underwater stages were colored gray.
