Biografia

Kobra Khan is a sinister and reserved warrior who stands out among Skeletor's ranks for his competence and focus. Unlike the more boisterous Evil Warriors, Khan maintains a deadly, quiet persona.

He is often seen partnering with Webstor, and together they form one of the most effective duos in the service of Snake Mountain. Khan's physical presence is defined by his reptilian features and his ability to incapacitate foes with a specialized sleep mist.

While he is frequently categorized as a henchman, Khan is a member of the Repton species, an underground race of peace-loving snake-people. His pursuit of power and association with evil led his people to brand him a traitor. In various iterations of the lore, he serves as a double agent, appearing to serve Skeletor while secretly orchestrating the return of his true master, King Hiss, and the ancient Snake Men faction.

LO SAPEVI?His name is a play on Kublai Khan, the famous 13th-century Mongolian warlord.

Storia

Kobra Khan's origins are rooted in the underground kingdom of the Reptons, located beneath a great stone pyramid.

Seeking to seize the crown from King Pythos, Khan once sabotaged the kingdom's life-sustaining furnace and attempted to frame He-Man for the crime.

His treachery was only revealed through the testimony of the court jester, Scales, forcing Khan into exile. Following his departure from his people, he joined Skeletor's Evil Warriors, participating in high-stakes missions such as the kidnapping of Princess Adora from the Royal Palace of Eternos. In later re-imaginings, Khan is portrayed as a descendant of the ancient Snake Men, driven by a fanatical quest to liberate King Hiss from the void of the Snake Pit.

LO SAPEVI?While the original toy sprayed water from its mouth, the Filmation cartoon depicted the gas coming from the folds in his hood.

Evoluzione

Kobra Khan's character has evolved from a generic reptilian henchman into a complex religious zealot. In the 1980s, he was primarily a 'Repton' traitor serving Skeletor with a non-lethal sleep gas.

By the 2002 reboot, his role was elevated to that of a fanatical acolyte who viewed himself as the last vestige of a noble, ancient race.

This version traded the sleep mist for lethal acid, emphasizing his transition from a mere nuisance to a deadly threat. Modern interpretations, such as those found in the DC Comics and the MOTU Classics lore, solidify his role as a master manipulator and double agent who successfully plays Eternia's greatest villains against one another to further the agenda of the Snake Men.

LO SAPEVI?In the 1980s, his sleep mist was occasionally shown to have the secondary effect of making him invisible or allowing him to stretch.

Da Collezione

For collectors, Kobra Khan is a cornerstone of the 'Wave 3' vintage Mattel era. The original 1984 figure is iconic for its 'spray' feature, where the head could be filled with water to mimic his sleep mist.

The 'holy grail' for Khan collectors is the 'Camo Khan' variant, originally released in limited regions like Argentina (Top Toys), featuring a distinct camouflage paint job.

Recent years have seen a resurgence in Khan's market value, particularly with the 2012 MOTU Classics release. Looking ahead, the 2025/2026 Masterverse 'New Eternia' figure is highly anticipated, as it includes deluxe swappable parts to recreate the Camo Khan look. Additionally, the 2026 Iron Studios 1:10 Art Scale statue represents the character's most high-end display piece to date, featuring both hooded and unhooded head sculpts.

LO SAPEVI?The recent 'New Eternia' figure is designed to pay homage to the ultra-rare South American variants from the 1980s.
