KING RANDOR
King Randor is the noble monarch of Eternia, husband to Queen Marlena, and father to Prince Adam (He-Man) and Princess Adora (She-Ra). Originally introduced in Mattel's mini-comics and popularized by Filmation's 1983 animated series, Randor is a fundamental pillar of the Masters of the Universe franchise who leads Eternia against Skeletor and evil forces.
Cronologia
Biografia
King Randor is the steadfast and righteous monarch who rules the kingdom of Eternos on the planet Eternia. Married to Queen Marlena, a former Earth astronaut named Marlena Glenn, he is the father of Prince Adam—secretly the champion He-Man—and Princess Adora, who becomes She-Ra.
Randor embodies the lawful leadership and moral compass of Eternia, constantly defending his realm against external threats, evil warlords, and cosmic invaders.
In classic continuity, Randor operates from his throne room, unaware that his apparently careless and lazy son Adam is actually the mighty warrior He-Man. Despite his frequent frustration with Adam's perceived lack of duty, Randor remains a deeply proud, affectionate father and an honorable ruler. In later continuities, Randor takes an active role on the frontline, establishing the Eternian Ruling Council alongside leaders of allied races to protect the planet during times of crisis.
Storia
The origins of King Randor expanded significantly as the Masters of the Universe lore grew. In original classic storylines, Randor inherited the Eternian throne after his father, King Miro, mysteriously disappeared.
However, the 2002 animated reboot and expanded collector bios re-envisioned his youth during a dark era known as 'The Great Unrest.' Before wearing the crown, he served as Captain Randor, a valiant military commander leading Eternia's defense forces.
During a decisive assault on the Hall of Wisdom by the warlord Keldor, Captain Randor engaged Keldor in a deadly duel. When Keldor hurled a flask of acid at Randor, the captain deflected it with his shield, splashing the burning fluid back onto Keldor's face and triggering his transformation into Skeletor. Following the battle, the Council of Elders chose Randor to rule as King of Eternia before merging with Castle Grayskull. Unbeknownst to Randor at the time, Keldor was actually his half-brother, making their eternal struggle a tragic family feud.
I PEZZI DI KING RANDOR
Evoluzione
King Randor's characterization has shifted considerably across decades of media. In his earliest 1981 mini-comics appearances, Randor was shown as an aged, gray-haired monarch with a wrinkled face. This concept was quickly revised to match the regal, red-haired, bearded sovereign seen in Filmation's 1983 cartoon. During the 1980s era, Randor served mostly as a stationary figurehead who offered fatherly lessons and expressed disappointment in Prince Adam's unpunctuality while remaining completely blind to his son's hero alter ego.
The 2002 Mike Young Productions animated series revolutionized Randor into a battle-tested warrior-king. Introducing his past as Captain Randor during 'The Great Unrest,' the series tied his history directly to Skeletor's origin through their acid-deflecting duel. Subsequent expanded lore in the Masters of the Universe Classics toy packaging bios and DC Comics series formally codified Keldor as Randor's half-brother. In Netflix's 'Revelation' and 'Revolution' series, Randor was portrayed with heightened dramatic depth and grief, culminating in the formal animated confirmation of his brotherhood with Keldor and his eventual passing.
Da Collezione
For action figure collectors, King Randor represents one of the most intriguing items from the vintage era. Despite appearing in almost every episode of the original cartoon, Mattel did not produce a King Randor figure until Wave 6 in 1987—the final wave of the original toy line. Because sales were declining and production was scaled back, the vintage 1987 figure was produced in far lower numbers, making a Mint on Card (MOC) original King Randor a highly sought-after grail fetching high prices among collectors.
When the 2002 line was canceled before a new Randor figure could be released, NECA filled the gap with an SDCC exclusive mini-statue (later repainted in Filmation colors with a fur cape). In December 2009, Mattel released a fully articulated King Randor in the Masters of the Universe Classics collector line sculpted by the Four Horsemen, followed by an 'Eternos Palace' Filmation variant in November 2012. Modern collectors can also hunt for Mattel's Origins 'Cartoon Collection' figures, CMON's board game miniatures, and upcoming tie-ins for the 2026 live-action feature film.

Actor James Purefoy was cast to portray King Randor in his live-action feature film debut in the 2026 Masters of the Universe movie.
