Biografia

Jon Snow begins his journey as the acknowledged bastard son of Lord Eddard 'Ned' Stark of Winterfell. Raised alongside his legitimate half-siblings Robb, Sansa, Arya, Bran, and Rickon, Jon experiences a childhood torn between deep family love and social exclusion, largely due to the resentment of Ned's wife, Catelyn Tully. Seeking a life of honor where his illegitimate birth will not hold him back, Jon departs Winterfell to join the sworn brothers of the Night's Watch at Castle Black, accompanied by his albino direwolf, Ghost.

At the Wall, Jon quickly distinguishes himself as a skilled warrior and leader, eventually becoming the personal steward to Lord Commander Jeor Mormont. Sent on a Great Ranging beyond the Wall, Jon is instructed by Qhorin Halfhand to infiltrate the Free Folk wildlings as a spy. While living among them, Jon falls in love with the spearwife Ygritte, learns of Mance Rayder's unified wildling army, and witnesses the true supernatural threat facing the realm: the White Walkers and their armies of undead wights.

After returning to Castle Black, Jon defends the Wall against the wildling siege and is elected the 998th Lord Commander of the Night's Watch. His decision to forge an alliance with the Free Folk triggers a mutiny among mutinous officers, resulting in his assassination. Resurrected by the Red Priestess Melisandre, Jon leaves the Watch, retakes Winterfell from Ramsay Bolton alongside Sansa, and is named King in the North. He subsequently allies with Daenerys Targaryen and leads forces during the Long Night, before learning his true lineage as Aegon Targaryen and ultimately making the painful choice to assassinate Daenerys to save Westeros from tyranny.

LO SAPEVI?Ned Stark named Jon after his mentor Jon Arryn, Lord of the Vale, whom Ned loved like a second father.

Storia

Jon Snow was born Aegon Targaryen at the Tower of Joy in Dorne around 283 AC during the end of Robert's Rebellion. He is the legitimate son of Prince Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark, whose secret marriage followed the annulment of Rhaegar's union with Elia Martell.

As Lyanna lay dying from childbirth complications, she begged her brother, Ned Stark, to protect her baby and keep his true heritage hidden from Robert Baratheon, who was systematically hunting down Targaryen heirs.

To fulfill his promise and shield the child from execution, Ned Stark claimed the infant as his own illegitimate son, naming him Jon after his mentor, Jon Arryn, and bestowing upon him the Northern bastard surname 'Snow'. Ned kept Jon's real identity a secret from everyone, including his own wife Catelyn and Jon himself, vaguely claiming when pressed by King Robert that the boy's mother was a lowborn woman named Wylla. Jon spent seventeen years raised in Winterfell as Ned's bastard, an arrangement that caused enduring tension with Catelyn but forged strong bonds with Ned and his siblings.

LO SAPEVI?In April 2024, actor Kit Harington revealed that HBO shelved the proposed sequel series 'Snow' because the team could not formulate a compelling narrative.

Evoluzione

Jon Snow's character evolution is a journey from an insecure, alienated bastard to a selfless leader and tragic hero. In his youth at Winterfell, Jon defined himself by his illegitimate status and social isolation. Tyrion Lannister's advice to wear his bastardy 'like armor' marked the beginning of his maturity. Joining the Night's Watch stripped away his noble preconceptions, replacing them with a realistic understanding of duty and brotherhood under the guidance of Jeor Mormont. His undercover mission among the Free Folk altered his worldview permanently.

Living alongside Ygritte, Tormund, and Mance Rayder allowed Jon to realize that wildlings and Northmen were fundamentally the same, separated only by the Wall while facing a shared threat in the White Walkers. As Lord Commander, Jon demonstrated visionary leadership by integrating the Free Folk into the realm's defense, even though it cost him his life at the hands of mutinous brothers. Following his resurrection by Melisandre, Jon's worldview shifted from rigid adherence to oaths to pragmatic duty. Freed from his Night's Watch vows, he reclaimed Winterfell, united the Northern houses, and accepted his duty as King in the North. His final trial forced him to choose between love and the survival of Westeros, culminating in his decision to assassinate Daenerys Targaryen. Jon's arc ends in voluntary exile beyond the Wall, returning full circle to live freely among the Free Folk and Ghost.

LO SAPEVI?Jon's direwolf Ghost was an albino runt found separate from the five pups assigned to Ned's trueborn children.
