Cronologia
Biografia

John Stewart is a landmark comic book superhero created by writer Dennis O'Neil and artist Neal Adams, debuting in Green Lantern (vol. 2) #87 in 1971. As DC Comics' first Black superhero, Stewart broke major industry barriers.
Visually modeled after legendary actor Sidney Poitier, he originally served as an architect, community activist, and U.S. Marine Corps veteran from Detroit before being selected by the Guardians of the Universe as a Green Lantern for Sector 2814.
Over decades of comic history, Stewart has ascended from a backup ring-bearer for Hal Jordan to one of the most respected military tacticians, Corps Leaders, and Justice League members in the DC Universe. Known for his indomitable willpower, precise structural ring constructs, and unyielding moral compass, he has led the Green Lantern Corps through galactic wars and evolved into cosmic entities such as the Master Builder and the Emerald Knight.
Storia

Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, John Stewart grew up alongside his younger siblings Damon and Rose. After his father left the family and his mother passed away, John and his siblings were raised by their Aunt Loretta.
A joyride at age 15 ended in a car accident; while uninjured then, a later car crash tragically took the life of his sister Rose, creating a deeply repressed psychological trauma that haunted Stewart for years.
Determined to make a positive impact, Stewart pursued higher education and became a talented architect and civil rights activist in Detroit. However, systemic prejudice led to him being fired from his firm due to his race. Recognizing his integrity and unbreakable resolve, the Guardians of the Universe selected Stewart to replace an injured Guy Gardner as Hal Jordan's backup Green Lantern. In his very first assignment, Stewart famously refused to wear a domino mask, proudly asserting that he had nothing to hide.

Evoluzione
From his groundbreaking debut in 1971 as an activist architect refusing masks to hide his identity, John Stewart has undergone one of the most dynamic character arcs in comic history. Initially serving as a substitute ring-bearer, Stewart made history in 1984 by succeeding Hal Jordan as Earth's primary Green Lantern. The catastrophic destruction of planet Xanshi in Cosmic Odyssey reshaped him forever, embedding a deep sense of accountability and personal gravity into his character.
His journey evolved through diverse cosmic roles—from the deity-like 'Master Builder' of Oa's Mosaic World to director of the Darkstars following spinal paralysis. His military sniper background was seamlessly integrated into comic canon alongside his iconic starring role in the animated Justice League (2001–2006) series, which established Stewart as the definitive Green Lantern for a global generation. In recent eras, Stewart has led the Corps as Field Commander and ascended as the 'Emerald Knight' ahead of his live-action DCU debut in HBO's Lanterns (2026).
