Biografia

Jean Elaine Grey-Summers, originally operating under the codename Marvel Girl and later known as Phoenix and Dark Phoenix, is a central superheroine in Marvel Comics lore.

As an Omega-level mutant possessing immense telepathic and telekinetic abilities, she served as the sole female member of Professor Charles Xavier's founding X-Men roster alongside Cyclops, Beast, Iceman, and Angel.

Throughout her history, Jean has played a pivotal role as both a protector of mutantkind and the mortal anchor to the cosmic Phoenix Force. In cinematic alternate continuities such as Earth-199999, Jean Grey is depicted as a powerful young mutant whose initial manifestation of powers led to her separation from her family. Mentored by her older sister Sara, Jean developed the formidable ability to possess the minds and bodies of others. Her relentless quest to uncover her sister's fate brings her into direct conflict with the U.S. Department of Damage Control and superhero allies like Spider-Man.

LO SAPEVI?Jean Grey was the sole female member of the original five X-Men team when Marvel debuted the comic in September 1963.

Storia

First introduced in 1963's The X-Men #1, Jean Grey's origins begin as a young mutant whose telepathic abilities manifested at an early age.

To protect her fragile adolescent psyche from the traumatic noise of other people's thoughts, Professor Charles Xavier placed telepathic blocks within her mind before training her as Marvel Girl at his School for Gifted Youngsters.

In the Earth-199999 narrative timeline, Jean grew up alongside her older sister Sara until their powers manifested, causing their mother to eject them from their home. Sara taught Jean how to use psychic possession to control others. After Sara was abducted by Bill Metzger and the Department of Damage Control, Jean embarked on a destructive crusade, raiding DODC facilities while jumping between host bodies to avoid capture, ultimately confronting Spider-Man in New York City.

LO SAPEVI?In Earth-199999, Peter Parker's mind was the only one Jean Grey could not psychically possess.

Evoluzione

Since her creation in 1963 as Marvel Girl, Jean Grey has undergone one of the most drastic character evolutions in comic book history. Initially written as a modest telepathic member of the original X-Men, her status transformed dramatically during Chris Claremont's 1970s run. Her bond with the cosmic Phoenix Force in The Phoenix Saga and her tragic corruption in The Dark Phoenix Saga elevated her into an icon of sacrifice and cosmic power. Over the decades, Jean's narrative expanded through repeated deaths, retcons, and rebirths.

Following her 1986 resurrection from a cocoon in Jamaica Bay, she co-founded X-Factor, married Scott Summers, and traveled 2,000 years into the future to raise Cable. Later eras pushed her evolution further: she mentored time-displaced teenage versions of herself in All-New X-Men, led global mutant diplomacy in X-Men Red (2018), served on Krakoa's Quiet Council, and ultimately ascended as the White Phoenix of the Crown. In 2026, her MCU debut in Spider-Man: Brand New Day reimagines her as an emotionally complex runaway mutant prior to joining Xavier's academy.

LO SAPEVI?To raise the young Cable 2,000 years in the future, Jean Grey and Scott Summers inhabited new bodies under the aliases 'Redd' and 'Slym Dayspring'.
