Biografia

Jacob Kowalski serves as the heart and non-magical emotional anchor of the Fantastic Beasts saga. An American World War I veteran living in New York City, Jacob's life changes forever in December 1926 when he visits Steen National Bank to secure a loan for his dream bakery. A chance encounter and briefcase swap with British Magizoologist Newt Scamander pulls Jacob directly into a hidden realm of magical beasts, secret societies, and dark wizarding politics.

Despite possessing no magical abilities, Jacob demonstrates exceptional bravery, warmth, and loyalty, quickly bonding with Newt and falling deeply in love with the telepathic witch Queenie Goldstein. Throughout the Global Wizarding War, Jacob emerges as a courageous and key member of Albus Dumbledore's inner circle. Even after facing mandatory memory wiping by MACUSA, his subconscious emotional connection to magic inspires whimsical pastry designs at his shop, Kowalski Quality Baked Goods.

Recruited during the Great Depression by Ilvermorny Professor Eulalie Hicks, Jacob is entrusted with a custom coreless snakewood wand, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with powerful witches and wizards in Berlin and Bhutan to defeat Gellert Grindelwald's forces. Ultimately, Jacob's devotion and kindness bridge the historical divide between the magical and non-magical worlds. His emotional journey culminates in his long-awaited marriage to Queenie inside his New York bakery, surrounded by his wizarding allies with Newt Scamander serving as his best man.

LO SAPEVI?Jacob served in France for six years during World War I because he remained stationed there without realizing the war had ended.

Storia

Born around the year 1900 in Poland, Jacob Kowalski emigrated to the United States during his youth. Raised in New York City, he was deeply influenced by his grandmother, who instilled in him a love for baking and passed down her secret recipe for traditional Pączki pastries. His grandfather also raised pigeons, instilling in Jacob an early warmth toward animals.

With the outbreak of the First World War, Jacob enlisted in the United States Army and served in France as part of the American Expeditionary Forces. He remained stationed in Europe for six years—unaware for a long time that the war had officially ended—before returning home in 1924. Tragically, his brother was killed in action during the conflict.

Before setting sail back to America, Jacob traveled to Poland to gather his surviving relatives, safeguard his family's traditional baking recipes, and take the first available ship to New York. Upon his return, Jacob struggled to adjust to post-war civilian life due to his extended military absence, taking a menial job at the Moreton Dale Canning Factory. Eager to rebuild his life, he sought a bank loan at the Steen National Bank on December 5, 1926, setting off the chain of events that introduced him to the wizarding world.

LO SAPEVI?When applying for a loan at Steen National Bank, Jacob brought a suitcase full of fresh homemade pastries directly to the banker's desk.

Evoluzione

Jacob Kowalski's trajectory across the Wizarding World is a classic journey of an everyday man thrust into extraordinary circumstances. Beginning as a weary World War I veteran stuck in a menial canning factory job, Jacob initially seeks nothing more than a modest bank loan to open a bakery. His accidental briefcase swap with Newt Scamander shatters his mundane reality, throwing him into an extraordinary realm of magical creatures and dark political upheaval. Over the course of the trilogy, Jacob transitions from a bewildered observer into a fearless hero in his own right.

Although MACUSA subjects him to memory erasure at the end of 1926, his love for Queenie Goldstein and inherent warmth transcend memory modification, resurfacing through magical creature-shaped pastries and quick memory recovery in London. When Grindelwald entices Queenie to his side at Père Lachaise Cemetery, Jacob suffers intense heartbreak but refuses to surrender to malice or fear. By the 1930s, Jacob matures into an essential member of Dumbledore's Army. Armed with a coreless snakewood wand, he stands undaunted against dark wizards in Berlin and Bhutan despite his lack of magical powers. His narrative comes full circle as he transforms from a rejected loan applicant into a celebrated bakery owner and the first No-Maj fully integrated into wizarding heroism, marrying Queenie in his own bakery.

LO SAPEVI?While attempting to order a drink at The Blind Pig speakeasy, Jacob humorously claimed to a house-elf bartender that his own uncle was a house-elf.
