IMPROVISED ARMED EXOFRAME
The Improvised Armed EXOFRAME is a 2.84-meter-tall field-modified mecha from Gen Urobuchi's sci-fi franchise OBSOLETE. Built upon alien neural frame technology traded for limestone, this irregular warfare variant is customized with homemade scrap armor and jury-rigged heavy weaponry by Sub-Saharan African insurgents.
Cronologia
Biografia
The Improvised Armed EXOFRAME is an asymmetric warfare variant of the standard extraterrestrial EXOFRAME (Enhanced Xenobiological Organic FRAME), standing 2.84 meters tall.
Deployed primarily in Sub-Saharan Africa around 2021, these field-rigged machines are operated by non-state militias, insurgent factions, and young combatants, most notably child soldiers Jamal and Kayira.
Because international treaties like the Sankt Gallen Arrangement restrict access to modern main battle tanks and conventional heavy armor, local forces adapt standard civilian EXOFRAMEs for battlefield use. By outfitting the base frames with field-crafted plating, anti-sniper hoods, and heavy improvised weaponry, these modified units allow guerrilla forces to successfully ambush and disable heavily armed conventional military units.
Storia
The origin of all EXOFRAMEs dates back to 2014, when an extraterrestrial species known as the 'Peddlers' made first contact with Earth. Seeking only raw limestone, the aliens offered 2.55-meter-tall humanoid, consciousness-controlled machines in exchange for 1,000 kilograms (1 ton) of limestone per unit.
Capable of neurally syncing with operators to act as a seamless extension of the human body, EXOFRAMEs quickly revolutionized manual labor worldwide. However, the near-zero acquisition cost of alien tech rapidly disrupted the global military balance.
In Sub-Saharan Africa, where access to traditional armored combat vehicles was blocked by international trade bans, local fighters began jury-rigging civilian EXOFRAMEs with armor scraps, torchlights, and specialized launchers. This birthed the Improvised Armed EXOFRAME, converting low-cost labor machinery into a highly effective tool for asymmetric warfare.

Evoluzione
The Improvised Armed EXOFRAME represents a dramatic evolutionary shift from commercial labor asset to asymmetric combat vehicle. What began as a 2.55-meter civilian utility frame distributed indiscriminately by the alien Peddlers was re-engineered by Sub-Saharan African insurgents into a 2.84-meter combat platform designed specifically for guerrilla ambush tactics.
Over time, this field-rigged unit expanded beyond the main anime series into official manga adaptations and video game crossovers. Furthermore, the unit evolved in the real world through Good Smile Company's release of official 3D CAD data, turning the mecha into an open-source platform for scale modelers to custom-build their own 3D-printed armor and weapons.
Da Collezione
For scale modelers and mecha collectors, the definitive physical kit is the MODEROID 1/35 Improvised Armed EXOFRAME — 2 Model Set produced by Good Smile Company and sculpted by Shichibee (released April 27, 2021). Standing ~85mm tall, this PS plastic kit features 28 points of articulation on the base frame, complete field-rigged armor plating, ATGM launchers, the iconic 'HellCannon', and unpainted 1/35 scale figures of pilots Jamal and Kayira.
In addition to traditional plastic model kits, PROJECT OBSOLETE and Good Smile Company released official 3D CAD modeling data online under open creative licenses. This makes the Improvised Armed EXOFRAME a favorite among customizers, who 3D-print unique weapons and armor add-ons. Blu-ray collectors also pursue the OBSOLETE Collector's Edition Blu-ray (released March 26, 2021), which includes full technical artbooks detailing mechanical schematics.

The alien Peddlers trade fully functional neural EXOFRAMEs for exactly 1,000 kg (1 ton) of limestone.
