Biografia
Jeremy Winston, known as Gunslinger Spawn, is a 19th-century preacher turned Hellspawn from the Wild West town of Bane, Colorado. Framed for the horrific murder of his wife and children by a greedy local landowner named Ed Kemper, Winston was executed by hanging in 1881.
Upon accepting a bargain from the demon Mammon, he was resurrected as an undead Hellspawn imbued with necroplasmic energy and bent on vengeance.
After wiping out the corrupt town of Bane to avenge his family, Winston spent centuries in Hell before being unexpectedly pulled into modern-day Earth due to a massive, universe-altering necroplasmic explosion caused by Al Simmons around Spawn #300–#301. Stranded in an unfamiliar contemporary world, Gunslinger Spawn acts as a fish-out-of-water antihero seeking a way back to his home timeline while confronting present-day supernatural threats. In the modern era, Gunslinger Spawn stands as a primary protagonist in the expanded Spawn Universe. Beyond starring in his self-titled ongoing comic series, he fights alongside key allies including Al Simmons, She-Spawn, Medieval Spawn, and Redeemer as a core member of the superhero team title The Scorched.
Storia
The origin of Gunslinger Spawn dates back to 1881 in Bane, Colorado, where preacher Jeremy Winston lived peacefully with his family on silver-rich land. Desiring his valuable property, local landowner Ed Kemper framed Winston for the brutal murder of his wife and children.
Winston was arrested and sentenced to hang alongside Francis Parker, a former Buffalo Soldier and deserter who was the great-grandfather of Al Simmons. Just before the execution, the demon Mammon—acting on behalf of Malebolgia—appeared to both men and offered them dark powers and revenge in exchange for their souls. Francis Parker refused the demonic pact, but Winston accepted.
During the hanging, Mammon engineered a malfunction that spared Parker's life, while Winston died and was immediately reborn as the undead Gunslinger Spawn. Equipped with demonic revolvers and necroplasmic powers, Gunslinger Spawn slaughtered every corrupt resident of Bane. Under Mammon's orders, he spared only Francis Parker, sealing him inside a pine casket belonging to deceased resident Henry Simmons and floating it down a river toward Mammon. With his vengeance complete, Winston willingly descended into Hell.

Evoluzione
Gunslinger Spawn began as a lore-building historical figure in the *Spawn* mythos. Debuting in a 2002 artwork teaser in *Spawn* #119 before receiving his origin in issues #174–#175, he was initially presented as a tragic 19th-century figure whose story was read from Francis Parker's journal. For years, he remained a dark legend tied exclusively to his 1881 origin and his subsequent descent into Hell. The character underwent a massive evolution around *Spawn* #300–#301, when Todd McFarlane integrated him directly into the main narrative.
Displaced in time by a massive necroplasmic explosion, Gunslinger Spawn transitioned from a historical flashback character into a present-day fish-out-of-water antihero fighting contemporary threats. His role expanded significantly with the 2021 launch of his self-titled ongoing series, his team role in *The Scorched*, and the 2024 prequel series *Deadly Tales of the Gunslinger Spawn*. Reaching issue #50 in his solo title, Gunslinger Spawn has evolved into one of the flagship pillars of Image Comics' expanded Spawn Universe across publishing, video games, and collectibles.
Da Collezione
For action figure and statue collectors, Gunslinger Spawn is one of the most sought-after characters produced by McFarlane Toys. His toy history began in the mid-2000s with the *Art of Spawn* Series 27, which included 7-inch and 12-inch figures based on early comic art from issues #119 and #131, establishing his signature western duster and demonic aesthetic.
Following the 2021 Spawn Universe expansion, McFarlane Toys launched a dedicated 7-inch Gunslinger Spawn figure as a Target Exclusive, featuring ultra-articulation and dual revolvers. High collector demand led to further releases in 2022, including the Deluxe figure equipped with a Gatling Gun and a GameStop Exclusive 2-pack box set featuring Gunslinger Spawn alongside his undead steed.
