Cronologia
Biografia

Queen Grimhilde is an icily imposing monarch who rules an unnamed German kingdom with an iron fist. Driven by fanatical vanity and assisted by her all-knowing Magic Mirror, she demands daily confirmation that she is the fairest woman in the land.
When the Mirror reveals that her young stepdaughter, Princess Snow White, has surpassed her in beauty, Grimhilde forces the princess into rags as a scullery maid before ultimately ordering Humbert the Huntsman to execute Snow White in the forest and bring back her heart in a heart-shaped box.
Upon discovering that the Huntsman betrayed her, Grimhilde retreats to her secret dungeon laboratory. Utilizing dark alchemy, she brews a magical elixir that sacrifices her youthful beauty to transform her into a hideous Old Hag disguise. Armed with an apple dipped in the 'Sleeping Death' spell, she journeys to the Seven Dwarfs' cottage to eradicate Snow White once and for all, demonstrating a relentless obsession that ultimately leads to her fatal plunge off a stormy cliff.
Storia

Although the 1937 film presents Grimhilde at the height of her power, expanded Disney material establishes her deeper origins. Her official name, Queen Grimhilde, originated in 1930s Disney comic strip serials, tie-in books, and publicity materials.
According to a 1938 Disney promotional brochure, Grimhilde sold her body and soul to the evil spirits of the Hartz Mountains to gain her dark arcane magic and brewing capabilities.
Years before the animated feature, Grimhilde married the widowed king of the realm, becoming stepmother to Snow White. Following the king's sudden death, she assumed absolute control as sole monarch. Her history was further explored in Serena Valentino's 2009 Disney Villains novel Fairest of All, detailing her early life, her initial affection for Snow White, and her gradual descent into murderous madness influenced by the Magic Mirror.

Evoluzione
Queen Grimhilde's development began in 1934 under Walt Disney, Joe Grant, and Art Babbitt. Early studio outlines considered making her a fat, comical cartoon character before settling on an icy classical design inspired by Polish artist Władysław Teodor Benda's theatrical masks and writer Dorothy Ann Blank's facial features. Her voice was iconically brought to life by stage actress Lucille La Verne, who famously removed her false teeth to achieve the rasping cackle of the Old Hag.
Over the decades, Grimhilde has evolved from a foundational animated antagonist into a complex cultural icon. She moved from 1930s comics into major live-action adaptations, notably Lana Parrilla's multi-layered portrayal of Regina Mills in Once Upon a Time and Gal Gadot's performance in the 2025 live-action remake of Snow White. Contemporary video games like Disney: Twisted-Wonderland and Disney Mirrorverse continue to reinterpret her legendary status and dark aesthetics for new generations.
