Biografia

Geralt of Rivia is a mutated monster hunter for hire known across the Continent as a witcher. Created by Polish fantasy author Andrzej Sapkowski, Geralt is known in Elder Speech as Gwynbleidd ('The White Wolf') and carries the infamous title 'The Butcher of Blaviken'.

Despite his persistent efforts to remain neutral amidst the political intrigue and wars of human kingdoms, Geralt constantly finds himself dragged into geopolitical conflicts, ethical dilemmas, and dark supernatural forces.

Throughout his journeys across literature, video games, comic books, and television adaptations, Geralt functions as a protector of the vulnerable and a defender against dangerous beasts like kikimoras, selkiemores, and strigas. His life is inextricably tied to his adopted daughter Princess Ciri (bound to him by the Law of Surprise), his soulmate Yennefer of Vengerberg, and his loyal companion Jaskier the bard.

Storia

Geralt was raised as a young boy by his mother, Visenna, unaware that he was fated to be surrendered to the witchers.

Around the year 1165, Visenna left him in the mountains of Kaedwen, where he was found by the veteran witcher Vesemir and brought to the witcher fortress of Kaer Morhen.

At Kaer Morhen, Geralt underwent intense physical conditioning alongside fellow apprentices Eskel, Lambert, and Remus. He survived the Trial of the Grasses—a painful alchemy-driven genetic mutation process—which granted him superhuman capabilities. The intense chemical transformations caused his hair to lose all color, turning it stark white and giving rise to his iconic moniker, 'The White Wolf'.

LO SAPEVI?His stark white hair was caused as an extra side effect of surviving intense genetic mutations during the Trial of the Grasses.

Evoluzione

Geralt's character trajectory is defined by a transformation from an emotionally detached mercenary into a fiercely protective father figure. Abandoned as a child and subjected to the painful Trial of the Grasses, early Geralt believed he was viewed by human society merely as a necessary monster. This belief led him to adopt a cynical stance of absolute moral neutrality, choosing never to take sides in human conflicts.

This isolationist mindset breaks down through his bonds with Jaskier, Yennefer, and most significantly Ciri. Bound to Ciri via the Law of Surprise, Geralt gradually accepts his role as a adoptive father, abandoning his detachment to protect his loved ones. Across the literature, video game trilogy, and television adaptations, Geralt evolves from a lone slayer into a central hero who repeatedly risks his life to defend his chosen family against global threats.

LO SAPEVI?Author Andrzej Sapkowski officially confirmed in 2026 that he is writing a new Witcher novel focused on Geralt.
