Cronologia
Biografia
George is a major secondary Mogwai and Gremlin who serves as an antagonist in Gremlins 2: The New Batch (1990). Born inside Clamp Center in New York City when Gizmo is accidentally exposed to water from a broken drinking fountain, George unfolds inside a drawer alongside Lenny, emerging roughly two seconds before him as the eldest of the new Mogwai spawn.
He is instantly recognizable by his short ears, large lips, fatter build, and an ape-like facial structure based on classic Hollywood actor Edward G. Robinson. Voiced by creature voice actor Mark Dodson, George displays a cynical, bossy, and grouchy disposition. Throughout the film, George acts as the controlling partner to Lenny.
He orders Lenny to break open an air vent, helps stuff Gizmo into the building's ventilation shaft, and leads the group to eat after midnight in the lower-floor food court. After transforming into a reptilian Gremlin inside a cocoon, George causes mayhem across Clamp Tower. He sparks an explosion on the set of the "Microwave With Marge" cooking show, which sets off the fire sprinklers and multiplies the Gremlin horde. George is later seen wearing a tie, smoking a cigar, and watching The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms before dying alongside the horde when electrocuted by the Electric Gremlin in the lobby.
Storia
George's origins begin with an accidental water spill on Gizmo inside the high-tech Clamp Center skyscraper.
Sculpted by creature artist Jim McPherson under special effects supervisor Rick Baker at Cinovation Studios, George's facial features were sculpted with a broad brow and pronounced scowl modeled directly after film star Edward G.
Robinson. His dynamic with Lenny was created as an intentional homage to George and Lennie from John Steinbeck's novel Of Mice and Men. Additionally, lore within the film universe suggests George may be a spiritual incarnation of Haskins, a Gremlin who was killed in a microwave in the original 1984 film.

Evoluzione
George evolves both physically and across media formats throughout the history of the franchise. Initially appearing as a furry Mogwai with a distinct brow and short ears, he takes on the commanding role among Gizmo's new offspring. After eating past midnight, he evolves into a reptilian Gremlin with black-spotted skin.
As a Gremlin, his personality adopts classic gangster tropes, complete with a tie and cigar accessories. Beyond his film debut, George transitioned from a pixelated enemy attacking Gizmo in 1990 8-bit and 16-bit video games to a 3D digital character in 2011's Gremlins: Gizmo. In the physical realm, George evolved into highly articulated collector action figures and valuable screen-used prop memorabilia in auction markets.
Da Collezione
For action figure collectors, George is a standout figure from NECA (National Entertainment Collectibles Association). NECA released dedicated screen-accurate figures for George starting with the Series 1 Mogwai line in mid-2011, which featured poseable eyes. This was followed by the Series 2 Gremlin figure in late 2011, sculpted with his signature black-spotted pattern, articulation, cigar, and tie accessories.
NECA also released limited Black & White variants simulating classic monochrome film stock. On the high-end prop market, original screen-used puppets sculpted by Rick Baker's Cinovation Studios command significant value. An original "throw-around" dummy puppet featured at the London Propstore auction in late 2025, and an intact George Mogwai screen puppet went up for bid at Heritage Auctions in mid-2026 with opening bids exceeding $4,000.

His character name and relationship with Lenny are inspired by John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men.
