Cronologia
Biografia

Gellert Grindelwald (c. 1882 – March 1998) is a central antagonist in the Wizarding World saga. Possessing precocious brilliance and wild ambition, Grindelwald became obsessed early in life with locating the Deathly Hallows to become the Master of Death.
He envisioned overthrowing the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy to establish a global order where powerful witches and wizards ruled benevolently over Muggles under the motto 'For the Greater Good'. During the 1920s through the 1940s, Grindelwald assembled a global faction known as 'The Alliance' and waged the Global Wizarding War across Europe and North America.
He infiltrated the Magical Congress of the United States of America (MACUSA) under the guise of Auror Percival Graves, held revolutionary rallies in Paris, and manipulated high-level wizarding elections in Bhutan. His campaign of terror culminated in a historic 1945 duel against Albus Dumbledore, who defeated him and claimed the Elder Wand. Following his defeat, Grindelwald was imprisoned for over fifty years in Nurmengard Castle, a fortress he had originally constructed to hold his own enemies. In March 1998, Lord Voldemort invaded Nurmengard to discover the location of the Elder Wand. Grindelwald refused to yield information, mocking Voldemort until the dark wizard murdered him in his cell.
Storia

Born in Central or Eastern Europe around 1882 or 1883, Gellert Grindelwald was educated at the Durmstrang Institute. Although Durmstrang was known for its tolerance of the Dark Arts, Grindelwald's dangerous dark magic experiments and near-fatal attacks on fellow students resulted in his expulsion at age sixteen.
Before leaving, he engraved the runic symbol of the Deathly Hallows into a wall at the school. In the summer of 1899, Grindelwald moved to Godric's Hollow, England, to reside with his great-aunt, the wizarding historian Bathilda Bagshot, while researching the Deathly Hallows. There he met seventeen-year-old Albus Dumbledore.
Over two months, the duo developed a deep intellectual, emotional, and romantic connection, forging a blood pact in a barn never to fight one another while planning a wizarding revolution. Their partnership abruptly ended when Dumbledore's brother Aberforth confronted them, resulting in a fierce three-way duel that inadvertently killed Dumbledore's sister, Ariana. Grindelwald fled Britain immediately afterward.

Evoluzione
Grindelwald's character evolution traces a path from an ambitious teenage prodigy to an international dark warlord, ending as a defiant captive. In his youth at Durmstrang and Godric's Hollow, Grindelwald was driven by intellectual curiosity and idealist ambitions shared with Albus Dumbledore. However, following the violent death of Ariana Dumbledore, Grindelwald abandoned his personal bonds and focused entirely on ruthless conquest.
During the Global Wizarding War, his operational methods evolved from secret infiltration—such as stealing the Elder Wand and assuming Percival Graves's identity—to overt political agitation and public manipulation. By organizing rallies in Paris and manipulating the election for Supreme Mugwump in Bhutan, he sought political legitimacy alongside magical dominance. His defeat by Dumbledore in 1945 stripped Grindelwald of his power and freedom, forcing him into fifty-three years of imprisonment in Nurmengard. In his final appearance in 1998, Grindelwald demonstrated a complete shift in demeanor; stripped of his ambition, he openly mocked Lord Voldemort and refused to betray the location of the Elder Wand, dying defiantly in his cell.
