Biografia

Frankenstein (also referred to as Eric Frankenstein or Agent Frankenstein) is an immortal, highly articulate monster hunter and antihero in the DC Universe.
Adapted from Mary Shelley's 1818 Gothic masterpiece Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus, DC's incarnation presents the giant homunculus as a sophisticated, poetic warrior dedicated to destroying evil, demonic, and alien forces across Earth. Throughout his comic history, Frankenstein has served as the star operative and team leader for S.H.A.D.E.
(Super-Human Advanced Defense Executive), heading their paranormal black-ops military unit known as the Creature Commandos. In addition to his work with S.H.A.D.E., he has fought alongside the Seven Soldiers of Victory, Justice League Dark, and later formed the Gotham City Monsters following S.H.A.D.E.'s dismantling. Wielding the flaming Sword of Michael and a steam-powered firearm, Frankenstein combines ancient martial skill with supernatural durability. Despite his frightening appearance and volatile nature, he is guided by a code of honor and an ongoing desire for reconciliation with his estranged four-armed ex-wife, the Bride.
Storia

Constructed from harvested body parts and brought to life through reanimation by the obsessed scientist Dr. Victor Frankenstein, the creature's earliest DC Comics origin debuted in Detective Comics #135 (1948).
In that original tale, time-traveling superheroes Batman and Robin arrived in 19th-century Europe to discover that the 'monster' was originally a giant assistant named Ivan reanimated by Dr. Frankenstein—an event witnessed by author Mary Shelley, who used it as inspiration for her novel.
In modern continuity, overhauled by Grant Morrison in Seven Soldiers: Frankenstein (2005), Frankenstein survived his initial creation and centuries of hardship, including decades frozen in an Arctic ice cave where he adopted the alias 'Victor Frankenstein II'. Re-emerging into the modern world, he took up arms as an articulate warrior against dark entities such as the Sheeda king Melmoth, eventually enlisting with S.H.A.D.E. to protect humanity from paranormal horrors.

Evoluzione
Frankenstein's narrative evolution across DC Comics spans over seven decades of comic history. Making his initial debut in Detective Comics #135 (1948) as a time-travel sci-fi novelty involving Batman, Robin, and Mary Shelley, he was first framed as a tragic assistant named Ivan reanimated by Dr. Frankenstein. During the Bronze Age, writers Marv Wolfman and Len Wein resurrected him in The Phantom Stranger (1973–1974) as 'Spawn of Frankenstein,' shifting the character into a tragic monster hunter battling Count Dracula.
Subsequent guest appearances in Superman and The Young All-Stars further integrated him into broader DC lore. His definitive modern transformation occurred in 2005 with Grant Morrison's Seven Soldiers: Frankenstein. Morrison re-imagined him from a tragic beast into a highly articulate, immortal warrior wielding the Sword of Michael. This redesign paved the way for his starring role in The New 52 series Frankenstein, Agent of S.H.A.D.E., membership in Justice League Dark, and his major adaptation as a lead character in James Gunn's DCU animated series Creature Commandos (2024).

In his 1948 debut, Batman and Robin travel back to the 19th century and inspire Mary Shelley to write her classic novel.
