The First Order Tread Speeder (officially designated as the 125-Z treadspeeder bike) is a rugged repulsor-tread hybrid patrol bike used by the First Order. Biography
The 125-Z treadspeeder bike, commonly known as the First Order Tread Speeder, is a specialized military scout vehicle operated by First Order Treadspeeder Drivers. Combining caterpillar treads with low-yield repulsorlifts, these vehicles were deployed across rough ground operations where traditional anti-gravity speeders risked failure.
During combat missions, the vehicle's design allowed it to catapult airborne First Order Jet Troopers into battle while offering mobile fire support. Treadspeeders saw action in multiple operational theaters during the war between the First Order and the Resistance.
A sergeant from the 709th Legion used one on the planet Batuu to eliminate two criminals pinning down Imperial troops, while a squad deployed during the Blockade of Kashyyyk was destroyed singlehandedly by Chewbacca. Their most prominent cinematic engagement occurred on the desert world of Pasaana, where two treadspeeders pursued Resistance agents Rey, Finn, Poe Dameron, Chewbacca, C-3PO, and BB-8 across the open desert.
Origins & Design
The development of the 125-Z treadspeeder was prompted by advancements in anti-repulsorlift technology.
As the First Order and rival forces perfected high-yield repulsorlift jamming devices capable of neutralizing conventional speeder bikes, military engineers recognized the need for scout vehicles immune to such countermeasures.
To solve this vulnerability, designers developed a hybrid mechanism combining physical tread drive with repulsorlift stabilization. By wrapping a plasteel track known as the 'Ripper' around a forward drive wheel, the vehicle maintained continuous ground traction while low-yield repulsorlifts kept the tail section aloft.

Vehicle Evolution
The Tread Speeder represents a major tactical evolution from the traditional repulsorlift speeder bikes favored by the Galactic Empire and early First Order. Earlier scout vehicles relied entirely on anti-gravity repulsorfields, making them vulnerable to modern electronic jamming devices that could instantly drop a speeder to the ground.
By integrating mechanical treads with secondary low-yield repulsorlifts, the 125-Z sacrificed pure anti-gravity float for reliability across hostile, jammed battlefields. Additionally, First Order engineers overcame historic dust-disruption issues in open-air shielding by incorporating a specialized cooling system that allows Chempat shields to remain continuously primed.
Collectibles & Merchandise
The First Order Tread Speeder entered the collectibles space even before its movie debut. A full-scale physical prop built by Belgian Prop Builders was revealed to the public at Star Wars Celebration Chicago in April 2019.
In retail collectibles, LEGO released the official building set *75250 Pasaana Speeder Chase* in October 2019, featuring the 125-Z treadspeeder alongside minifigures of the Treadspeeder Driver and Jet Trooper. Hasbro also released a 5-inch scale vehicle and figure set under the *Galaxy of Adventures* toy line, and trading card collectors can find the vehicle showcased in the *2019 Topps Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Series 1* set.
