He lives a strictly regimented life dictated by step-by-step instruction manuals—from how to drink coffee to fitting in—while enjoying mass-market TV shows like 'Where Are My Pants?' and listening to the hit song 'Everything Is Awesome'.
His ordinary life changes dramatically when he stumbles upon the Piece of Resistance and is mistaken by the Master Builder Vitruvius for 'The Special'—the prophesied figure destined to stop Lord Business from gluing the universe together with the Kragle. Hopelessly underprepared, Emmet embarks on a multi-realm fellowship alongside Wyldstyle (Lucy), Batman, and other Master Builders. Throughout his struggle against Lord Business and later the threats from the Systar System, Emmet proves that true heroics do not come from dark cynicism, but from genuine empathy, teamwork, and believing that everyone is capable of extraordinary creativity.
Backstory
Emmet spent most of his life working on a construction crew in Bricksburg, rebuilding the city strictly according to blueprints briefed by President Business.
Eager to be liked and popular, Emmet strictly adhered to every rule in his instruction booklet in hopes of fitting in with his peers.
Despite his best efforts to connect with others, his co-workers—including Gail, Wally, and Frank—barely registered his existence, viewing him as a total blank slate with no original thoughts. Prior to discovering the Piece of Resistance, Emmet's sole personal invention was a 'Double-Decker Couch,' an idea initially dismissed by others as completely uncreative and useless.
