Biografia
Edward Newgate, known to the world as 'Whitebeard,' stands as one of the most legendary figures in pirate history. Recognized as the 'Strongest Man in the World' and the 'Man Closest to One Piece' following the execution of Gol D. Roger, Newgate served as Captain of the Whitebeard Pirates and ruled as one of the Four Emperors (Yonko) governing the New World.
Standing at an extraordinary height of 666 cm with his trademark crescent-shaped white mustache, his presence alone maintained balance across the turbulent seas. Unlike traditional pirates driven by wealth or conquering lands, Newgate's primary life goal was to build a surrogate family. He adopted hundreds of crewmates and allied pirates as his foster children, commanding his grand fleet with paternal warmth rather than fear.
His protection extended far beyond his crew to vulnerable territories like Fish-Man Island and his impoverished homeland of Sphinx, using his Yonko status to end human trafficking and piracy in those regions. When his 2nd Division Commander, Portgas D. Ace, was captured by the Marines and scheduled for execution, Whitebeard led a full-scale assault on Marine Headquarters in the Summit War of Marineford. Despite suffering severe illness and receiving hundreds of mortal wounds in battle, Whitebeard fought until his last breath, dying standing on his feet while launching a New Age of piracy with his final declaration that the One Piece truly exists.
Storia
Born on Sphinx Island in the Grand Line roughly 72 years prior to his death, Edward Newgate grew up as a poor orphan on an island unable to afford the World Government's Heavenly Tribute. Setting out to sea as a young man, Newgate distinguished himself from fellow pirates by showing zero interest in gold or gems, quietly sending all his earnings back to keep Sphinx Island supplied. At age 26, he joined the infamous Rocks Pirates under Rocks D.
Xebec, sailing alongside future Emperors Charlotte Linlin (Big Mom) and Kaido until the crew dissolved following the God Valley Incident 38 years ago. Following the collapse of the Rocks Pirates, Newgate established the Whitebeard Pirates to realize his dream of having a family. Over thirty years ago, he landed in Wano Country and recruited Kozuki Oden as a division commander, later allowing Oden to join Gol D. Roger to reach the final island.
Whitebeard and Roger formed a legendary three-day duel that ended in mutual respect, and after Roger's death 24 years ago, Whitebeard became the world's most feared pirate with a bounty of 5,046,000,000 Berries. Later in life, he adopted Roger's son, Portgas D. Ace. When Ace went hunting for the traitor Marshall D. Teach and was captured by the Navy, Whitebeard mobilized his entire armada, setting the stage for the historic war at Marineford.

Evoluzione
Edward Newgate's evolution across decades represents a shift from an orphaned boy seeking human connection to the ultimate patriarch of the seas. In his youth on Sphinx Island and his early pirating career with the Rocks Pirates, Newgate possessed long golden hair and rejected traditional wealth in favor of building a family.
Forming the Whitebeard Pirates allowed him to evolve into 'Whitebeard,' taking on his famous crescent mustache, expanding his fleet, and using his power for humanitarian protection across islands like Fish-Man Island. In his final years at age 72, Whitebeard's physical condition was weakened by severe illness, requiring IV fluids and medical nurses while off-duty. Despite his physical decline, his moral authority and willpower never wavered. During the Summit War of Marineford, his evolution reached its climax: rather than fighting for personal survival, he knowingly sacrificed himself to ensure the survival of his 'sons' and the next generation. Dying standing tall with zero wounds on his back, his final act ushered in a New Age of piracy.
