Cronologia
Biografia
Conrad "Duke" Hauser was born in St. Louis, Missouri, into a military family with a long tradition of service. A highly decorated soldier and Airborne Infantry Master Sergeant (E-8), Duke functions as the operational backbone and field commander of the G.I. Joe Team.
Operating under General Hawk's high-level command, Duke is a dedicated career non-commissioned officer who directs combat forces in the field, earning the ultimate respect of his team through hands-on leadership and tactical genius.
In modern re-imaginings such as Skybound's Energon Universe, Duke's origin is tied directly to the discovery of alien life. After witnessing a rogue transforming giant robot kill his comrade Tyler "Frosting" Frost, Duke goes rogue to investigate military cover-ups. Pursued by enemies such as Major Bludd and Destro's M.A.R.S. Industries, Duke eventually helps establish the G.I. Joe team to combat extraterrestrial and terrorist threats, taking charge of training and leading Joes against Cobra.
Storia
Duke grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, where he developed a lifelong friendship with Lance "Clutch" Steinberg, test-driving and crashing Clutch's hand-built cars.
Following his family's military tradition, Duke enlisted and earned battlefield distinction, acquiring fluency in English, French, and German while mastering airborne infantry skills. His trajectory changed when his military transport was attacked by a transforming alien jet.
Surviving the traumatizing loss of his fellow soldier Frosting, Duke sought answers from Colonel Hawk. Met with silence, Duke went AWOL, investigating Dr. Adele Burkhart and infiltrating M.A.R.S. Industries. Despite being framed for 16 murders following Burkhart's assassination by Major Bludd, Duke fought off B.A.T. prototypes and teamed up with Hawk and other operatives to form the core of the G.I. Joe military response unit.
I PEZZI DI DUKE
Evoluzione
Since his 1983 debut, Duke's characterization has evolved while maintaining his core identity as G.I. Joe's field leader. Initially introduced in Larry Hama's Marvel comic run and the Sunbow cartoon as a classic 1980s military Sergeant Major, Duke bridged top command under General Hawk with frontline soldiers. Throughout the 1990s, Hasbro sub-lines transformed him into specialized roles, including the yellow-camouflaged Tiger Force leader, a Battle Corps operative, and commander of the orbital Star Brigade unit.
In the 2000s and 2010s, Duke shifted across formats and ranks. IDW Publishing promoted him to Colonel (O-6), focusing on geopolitical counter-terrorism. In animation, he transitioned from the high-tech tactical commander of Sigma 6 to a grim strike team leader in Warren Ellis's G.I. Joe: Resolute, and a framed fugitive in G.I. Joe: Renegades. Live-action films cast Channing Tatum as Duke, while Skybound's 2023 Energon Universe reboot reinvented his origins as a rogue soldier uncovering extraterrestrial Transformers technology.
Da Collezione
Duke holds elite status in the action figure collecting community, beginning with his 1983 mail-away debut for Series 2 of Hasbro's 3¾-inch G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero line, followed by his 1984 retail carded release. Vintage collectors actively target variants including his 1988 Tiger Force figure, 1993 Battle Corps, and 1993 Star Brigade space-suit release.
His 2007 25th Anniversary release modernized the classic 3¾-inch mold with upgraded modern articulation. In recent years, Hasbro's 6-inch G.I. Joe Classified Series (launched in 2020) has produced top-tier figures of Duke featuring detailed tactical accessories, modern face sculpting, and retro cardback homage releases. Vintage carded 1983–1984 figures in high-grade condition remain white-whale grail items, while new Classified Series variants continue to drive strong demand among modern collectors.

Duke was originally scripted to die in G.I. Joe: The Movie (1987), but backlash over Optimus Prime's death led creators to rewrite his death into a coma.
