Throughout his heroics, Strange has acted as a key strategist across the Marvel Universe. Beyond battling demonic and cosmic entities like Dormammu, Nightmare, and Shuma-Gorath, he co-founded the Defenders alongside Namor, Hulk, and Silver Surfer, served on the secret council known as the Illuminati, and fought alongside the New Avengers.

Stephen Strange was an exceptionally skilled but deeply arrogant neurosurgeon practicing in New York City.
His high-flying medical career came to a sudden halt after a near-fatal automobile crash severely damaged the nerve endings in his hands, leaving him unable to perform surgery.
Unwilling to accept a non-surgical life, Strange exhausted his wealth searching the globe for a physical cure. His search eventually led him to Kamar-Taj in the Himalayas, where he met the Ancient One, Earth's Sorcerer Supreme. Though initially seeking medical healing, Strange was introduced to the hidden world of magic. Under the Ancient One's guidance, Strange transformed from a self-centered doctor into a disciplined student of the mystic arts, eventually inheriting the mantle of Sorcerer Supreme after his master's death.
