COLE YOUNG

Cronologia
Biografia
Cole Young was born and raised as an orphan on the South Side of Chicago. Once a champion mixed martial artist who captured a title by defeating Eddy Tobias, Cole's fighting career fell into a steep decline due to his aggressive style lacking defensive control.
Reduced to taking $200 cage fights just to support his wife Allison and daughter Emily, Cole's life changes when Special Forces officer Jax Briggs confronts him about his dragon-shaped chest mark, revealing it is a summons to fight for Earthrealm in Mortal Kombat. Hunted by the Lin Kuei assassin Sub-Zero—who was dispatched by Outworld sorcerer Shang Tsung to eradicate the Hasashi bloodline—Cole flees with his family.
After seeking out Sonya Blade, Cole travels to Lord Raiden's sky temple alongside mercenary Kano. There, under the guidance of Liu Kang and Kung Lao, Cole undergoes strenuous training to unlock his Arcana. When the Outworld champion Prince Goro attacks his family, Cole's desperate need to protect them awakens his Arcana—a suit of kinetic energy-absorbing armor equipped with dual tonfas. After learning he is the direct descendant of Hanzo Hasashi (Scorpion), whose infant lineage was saved centuries prior by Lord Raiden, Cole teams up with his resurrected ancestor to defeat Sub-Zero. Lord Raiden subsequently tasks Cole with recruiting new Earthrealm champions, sending him to Los Angeles to find martial arts star Johnny Cage ahead of the official Mortal Kombat tournament.
Storia
Cole Young's lineage dates back centuries to feudal Japan, where his ancestor Hanzo Hasashi, leader of the Shirai Ryu clan, was murdered alongside his family by Bi-Han of the Lin Kuei.
Unbeknownst to Bi-Han, Hanzo's infant daughter survived through the intervention of Lord Raiden, who hid the child away and protected the bloodline across generations.
Cole grew up as an orphan in Chicago, unaware of his heritage or the true meaning of the dragon mark on his chest, which his daughter Emily assumed was a birthmark. Cole used his natural aggression to forge a career in MMA, but as his form deteriorated, he lost his title and fell into obscurity. His origin remained hidden until Outworld forces detected his mark, forcing him out of the ring and into the multi-realm war to uphold his family's legacy.
I PEZZI DI COLE YOUNG
Evoluzione
Cole Young was created as a 'canon foreigner' protagonist by screenwriter Greg Russo and director Simon McQuoid for the 2021 film reboot. Designed to serve as an accessible point of entry into Mortal Kombat lore, Cole's emotional narrative as a protective father drew directly from Russo's real-life experience preparing for the birth of his first child.
In-universe, Cole evolves from an obscure $200 cage fighter into an Arcana-awakened warrior capable of defeating Prince Goro. Out-of-universe, following mixed fan reactions regarding an original lead taking screen time from classic game icons, his role in the 2026 sequel Mortal Kombat II was restructured into a co-leading ensemble position alongside fan-favorites Johnny Cage and Kitana. NetherRealm Studios further defined his role by confirming Cole remains strictly exclusive to the cinematic universe.
Lewis Tan is the son of Philip Tan, a world-renowned stuntman, actor, and fight choreographer.
