BRUNO MADRIGAL
Bruno Madrigal is a central character in Disney's 60th animated feature film, Encanto (2021). Gifted with the ability to see the future, his often doomsaying predictions caused him to be perceived as the 'black sheep' of the Madrigal family, leading him to live in self-imposed exile inside the walls of Casa Madrigal for a decade.
Cronologia
Biografia

Bruno Madrigal is the youngest of the fraternal triplets born to Alma and Pedro Madrigal, alongside his sisters Julieta and Pepa. Voiced by John Leguizamo, Bruno is a nervous, shy, but deeply kind-hearted 50-year-old man who possesses the magical gift of precognition.
Because his prophecies frequently delivered unpleasant or misunderstood truths to the village of Encanto, he was wrongly viewed as a bringer of misfortune and ostracized by both the townspeople and his own family. To protect his youngest niece, Mirabel, from being scapegoated after a vision showed an uncertain fate regarding the destruction of their magical home, Bruno shattered his vision slab and vanished.
Unbeknownst to the family—who made his very name taboo—Bruno never truly left. He spent ten years living in secret inside the cracks of Casa Madrigal, befriending rats and quietly repairing wall fissures to preserve his home. When Mirabel discovers Bruno living inside the walls, she convinces him to perform another vision to help save the family's magic. Following the tragic collapse of Casa Madrigal, Bruno steps out of hiding to defend Mirabel against Abuela Alma. The emotional confrontation leads to mutual understanding, family reconciliation, and Bruno's joyful reintegration into the Madrigal household.
Storia

Bruno was born amidst tragedy when his family was forced to flee their original home. Following his father Pedro's selfless sacrifice, a magical miracle granted his mother Alma an enchanted home (Casa Madrigal) and protective mountains.
At five years old, Bruno opened his magical door and gained the gift of precognition. However, his honest predictions—ranging from minor inconveniences like rain on Pepa's wedding day to bleak prophecies about townspeople—earned him widespread resentment.
Over time, his relationship with Abuela Alma strained as she struggled to see the value in his gift. Following Mirabel's failed gift ceremony, Abuela asked Bruno to peer into the future. Upon seeing a vision where Mirabel stood before a breaking Casa Madrigal, Bruno chose self-exile to spare her from the community's judgment, disappearing behind the walls for a decade.

Evoluzione
During early concept development at Disney Animation, Bruno underwent extensive redesigns. Creators Byron Howard and Jared Bush initially envisioned him as one of Mirabel's cousins rather than her uncle, with early concepts portraying him with a heavier physique. However, his signature ragged green ceremonial ruana was retained throughout development.
Filmmakers conducted research into individuals living in isolation with limited human contact to authentically craft his coping mechanisms and social anxiety. Narratively, Bruno evolves from an urban myth and feared harbinger of doom into a relatable, sympathetic symbol of family neurodivergence and generational healing. His standout song 'We Don't Talk About Bruno' catapulted him into a global pop-culture phenomenon.

Disney animators researched the behavior of people living in long-term confinement to accurately design Bruno's eccentricities and coping habits.
