Cronologia
Panoramica
Good Smile Company, Inc. (commonly abbreviated as GSC) was founded on May 1, 2001, by Takanori Aki and is headquartered at the Akiba CO Building in Chiyoda, Tokyo, Japan.
Originally established as a talent management and event agency, GSC quickly pivoted its primary business model toward hobby and figure production following a partnership with MAX Watanabe of Max Factory in late 2001.
Today, Good Smile Company stands as an industry leader in manufacturing, publishing, and distributing Japanese pop-culture merchandise, including posable action figures, scale statues, plastic model kits, visual novels, and video games. Beyond collectible figures, GSC maintains a broad multimedia ecosystem. The company features recognizable mascots such as Gumako (designed by POP / CHAN×CO), Racing Miku, and Wooser. It operates Good Smile Racing—an independent motorsport division competing in Japan's Super GT series—and holds strategic investments in anime studio conglomerates like Ultra Super Pictures, international branches such as Good Smile Arts Shanghai, and joint business initiatives with entities like Toho Co., Ltd.
Storia
Following its shift to hobby manufacturing in late 2001, Good Smile Company achieved a major industry breakthrough in February 2006 with the launch of its chibi Nendoroid figure line at Wonder Festival. The release of Nendoroid Hatsune Miku in 2007, created in collaboration with Crypton Future Media, became an unprecedented hit that solidified GSC's status in the market.
In 2008, GSC launched the figma articulated figure series in partnership with Max Factory and established its motorsport footprint through Studie GLAD Racing. Throughout the 2010s, GSC expanded into media production and racing management.
The company established Good Smile Racing in 2010—winning Super GT GT300 championships in 2011, 2014, and 2017—and formed Ultra Super Pictures in 2011 to invest in anime like Kill la Kill and PROMARE. GSC introduced new product lines including MODEROID model kits and Harmonia bloom fashion dolls in 2018, followed by POP UP PARADE figures in 2019. In the 2020s, GSC took over official Blythe Doll manufacturing, launched the HELLO! GOOD SMILE and PLAMATEA series, expanded mobile and console game publishing, and announced its original fantasy IP universe IGNISPHERE in 2026.

Reputazione
Good Smile Company enjoys a stellar reputation among figure collectors worldwide for high sculpting quality, paint execution, and standardized engineering. The company's premier series, Nendoroid, established an industry standard for chibi collectibles through its modular joint system and interchangeable faceplates. In 2013, Nendoroid #300 (Hatsune Miku 2.0) introduced universal neck joints and faceplate specifications that remain the company standard across more than 2,000 unique releases.
Collectors also revere GSC's joint efforts with Max Factory on the figma and PLAMATEA lines, which are noted for blending fluid joint mobility with clean artistic fidelity. The debut of the POP UP PARADE line further enhanced GSC's market position by delivering budget-friendly fixed-pose figures without drastically compromising sculpt accuracy. Additionally, GSC built significant goodwill within the collector community through philanthropic initiatives like Cheerful JAPAN!, launched to support disaster relief following the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake.

GSC acquired the official design and manufacturing license for Blythe Dolls in 2021, debuting the Radiance Evolution face mold.
