Overview
Founded in 1998 by DC Comics and parent company Warner Bros., DC Collectibles (originally established under the name DC Direct) serves as the high-end collectible arm for DC Comics characters. The brand was specifically created to cater directly to comic specialty shops, direct retail markets, and adult collectors seeking high-quality, artist-focused merchandise.
Throughout its history, the division has produced action figures, statues, busts, prop replicas, and fine art prints. Positioned in the premium market, DC Direct built its reputation on translating iconic comic book artwork, television shows, video games, and feature films into physical collectibles. In 2019, the brand was integrated into the Warner Bros.
Consumer Products division. Although the original internal division was shuttered in August 2020 during company-wide restructuring, Warner Bros. entered a major licensing and distribution partnership with McFarlane Toys in 2021. This partnership allowed McFarlane Toys to restart production of legacy DC Direct lines and maintain its position in the specialty retail market.
History
DC Direct launched in 1998, debuting with action figures based on MAD Magazine characters Alfred E. Neuman and Spy vs. Spy. Between 1999 and 2004, the brand expanded into creator-focused action figures representing Vertigo and mainstream DC titles such as The Sandman, Preacher, and Swamp Thing.
A major milestone occurred in 2005 with the launch of Batman: Black & White, a flagship monochromatic statue line translating legendary comic creators' artistic interpretations into 3D. Throughout the late 2000s, DC Direct released landmark lines based on major comic arcs, including Crisis on Infinite Earths, Kingdom Come, and Blackest Night.
In April 2012, the division rebranded as DC Collectibles to broaden its footprint into mainstream retail and direct-to-consumer digital channels. Key achievements from this era included the screen-accurate Batman: The Animated Series 6-inch action figure line and popular statue series such as DC Bombshells. In February 2020, the brand officially reverted to its original DC Direct name before parent company WarnerMedia shuttered the internal division in August 2020. Production was successfully revived in late 2021 when Todd McFarlane's McFarlane Toys entered an agreement to manage inventory, publish, and distribute DC Direct's lines of high-end statues and specialty figures.

Reputation
DC Direct established a stellar reputation among adult collectors by prioritizing creator-focused, artist-accurate sculpts over mass-market play features. The brand set an industry standard by collaborating directly with prominent comic creators—such as Jim Lee, Alex Ross, George Pérez, Greg Capullo, Mike Mignola, Frank Cho, and Ant Lucia—to translate their signature illustration styles into precise 3D figures and statues.
Key releases like the monochromatic Batman: Black & White series and the screen-accurate 6-inch scale Batman: The Animated Series line—complete with detailed vehicles like the Batmobile and Batwing—earned high praise for sculpt quality, paint execution, and faithful adaptation. Even following corporate shutdowns in 2020, strong demand for the brand's unique portfolio prompted the 2021 partnership with McFarlane Toys, ensuring that DC Direct's legacy of premium resin statues and high-end collectibles continues to thrive.

The DC Bombshells line, introduced in 2013, originated as 1940s WWII pin-up style designs by artist Ant Lucia before expanding into statues and comic spin-offs.
