MISTER MXYZPTLK
Mister Mxyzptlk is a reality-warping imp from the Fifth Dimension and one of Superman's most persistent and eccentric adversaries. A mischievous trickster rather than a traditional villain, he uses nigh-omnipotent magic to pester the Man of Steel, governed only by self-imposed rules—most notably the requirement to return home if tricked into saying his name backwards.
Cronologia
Biografia

Mister Mxyzptlk, often simply called 'Mxy,' is a chaotic force of nature hailing from the Fifth Dimension. Unlike Superman’s more lethal foes, Mxy views his encounters with the Man of Steel as a grand, multiversal game.
He possesses the ability to manipulate reality, logic, and the fundamentals of the universe at will, often turning Metropolis into a surreal playground to test Superman's wits. His presence is defined by a puckish nature; he rarely seeks to harm or kill, preferring instead to engage in elaborate practical jokes that challenge the laws of physics.
Mxy is legally and magically bound by the rules he establishes for himself. Traditionally, the only way to banish him back to his home dimension for a minimum of ninety days is to trick him into saying, typing, or spelling his own name backwards: 'Kltpzyxm.' While he is a frequent nuisance to the Superman family, his interventions have occasionally served larger purposes, such as the revelation during the 'Superman Reborn' arc that he was the key to merging disparate versions of the hero into a single, complete entity.
Storia

The origins of Mister Mxyzptlk vary across the DC multiverse.
In one account, he was a serious student from the Fifth Dimension who only became a prankster after encountering Young Justice; the teenage heroes inadvertently 'corrupted' him by introducing him to Three Stooges videos to prevent a timeline where the Earth was destroyed.
In the Post-Crisis era, he first arrived in Metropolis disguised as a man named Ben Deroy, attempting to marry Lois Lane. He eventually chose the name 'Mxyzptlk' because he believed it would be nearly impossible for Superman to force him to say it backwards. Later revelations during the Rebirth era suggest that Mxyzptlk is a singular entity existing outside the normal flow of time, once spending 2,000 years imprisoned in a transdimensional trap by Mister Oz (Jor-El) before escaping back to Prime Earth.
Evoluzione
Mister Mxyzptlk has undergone several radical transformations since his 1944 debut. In the Golden Age, he was 'Mxyztplk,' a bald man in a purple suit and bowler hat. The Silver Age shifted his look to the iconic orange suit with white hair and finalized the 'Mxyzptlk' spelling.
While originally a goofy prankster, Alan Moore’s 1986 story 'Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?' introduced a terrifying, godlike side to the character, suggesting his mischief was merely a mask for a more sinister nature. Post-Crisis, he became more of a meta-commentator, with John Byrne making his 'return rules' change every visit. Most recently, DC Rebirth unified all versions of the character, establishing him as a singular, immortal entity who remembers every iteration of the DC Multiverse.
Da Collezione
For collectors, Mister Mxyzptlk is a 'grail' character for Superman completionists due to his unique aesthetic. Historically, his figures often appear in 'mischief' themed sets. Iconic releases include the Lego minifigures featured in the Lego Batman and DC Super-Villains lines.
High-end collectors often seek out Silver Age-inspired figures that capture his classic orange-and-purple suit. Interest in Mxy collectibles saw a massive spike in 2024–2025 following James Gunn's public teasing of a Mxyzptlk toy on social media, sparking rumors of a live-action DCU appearance. Figures produced by DC Direct and Mattel remain the standard, while his 2023 'My Adventures with Superman' design has introduced a new, stylized aesthetic to the secondary market.

He once gave Lex Luthor a lump of red kryptonite that turned Superman into a human.
