In the 2002 He-Man and the Masters of the Universe animated series, Sy-Klone (also known as Syclone or Klone) is reimagined as an ancient, samurai-like warrior who spent thousands of years guarding the sacred island of Anwat Gar. Redesigned by toy sculptors The Four Horsemen, this version transitions the character from a 1980s cybernetic athlete into a sombre, mystical guardian of wind power who joins He-Man's Masters.

La Scena

La Scena

Sy-Klone makes his canonical debut in Season 1, Episode 15, "The Mystery of Anwat Gar." He is introduced on the long-deserted island of Anwat Gar, where he has stood solitary vigil for thousands of years as the final defender of the island's powerful Legacy Stones. When Skeletor infiltrates the ruins and steals the stones, He-Man is forced to destroy them to prevent catastrophic harm, bringing Sy-Klone's millenary watch to an end. With his mission complete, He-Man invites Sy-Klone to leave the island and join the heroic Masters of the Universe. Later in the series, particularly in the spotlight episode "Separation," Sy-Klone embarks on a journey to find his original family, only to discover they have been dead for centuries, leading him to fully embrace the Masters as his true family.

Significato

The 2002 animated series dramatically reshaped Sy-Klone from a minor 1980s character with brief cameos into a deep, philosophical hero. Rather than being a purely technological cyborg created by a mechano-ray or snave scientist, this iteration establishes him as a mystical warrior whose control over wind is magical in nature. Voiced by John Payne, Sy-Klone brings a solemn, wise, and highly articulate presence to the team, frequently speaking in metaphors and proverbs that amuse or slightly annoy his battle comrades. Story editor Dean Stefan pointed out that Sy-Klone was defined as the last defender of Anwat Gar rather than necessarily being native to it, adding an air of mystery to his ancient past while highlighting themes of duty, ancient legacy, and finding a new family.

Design

Design

Sy-Klone's appearance in the 2002 series was designed by sculptors The Four Horsemen, who gave him a distinct samurai warrior aesthetic inspired by Japanese armor and the Asian-influenced architecture of Anwat Gar. He wears vibrant blue and yellow high-tech armor accented by his signature red rings on his chest and arms, which spin to generate cyclonic winds. Equipped with a battle ring and shield, his 2002 visual identity has been preserved across collectibles, including the original 2003 Mattel 200X wave figure, the 2004 Snake Men variant, and modern Masters of the Universe Origins 200X Cartoon Collection releases featuring lenticular chest details.
