Cronologia
Biografia
The Green Lantern title represents an intergalactic mantle of peacekeepers working under the Green Lantern Corps, created by the immortal Guardians of the Universe on planet Oa. Powered by emotional willpower, Green Lanterns wear Power Rings that generate hard-light energy constructs bounded only by their imagination.
Earth's Green Lanterns serve as the primary protectors of Space Sector 2814 and rank among the most formidable defenders of the cosmos. Several prominent individuals on Earth have held the title across history. Alan Scott served as the original Golden Age hero, drawing power from the mystical Starheart.
Hal Jordan, an ace test pilot chosen by the dying alien Abin Sur, became the premier Silver Age Green Lantern and a founding member of the Justice League. Other key human Lanterns include architect and U.S. Marine veteran John Stewart, the brash Guy Gardner, graphic artist Kyle Rayner, automotive mechanic Simon Baz, Jessica Cruz, and former police officer Jo Mullein. Together and individually, Earth's Green Lanterns safeguard the planet and the galaxy from existential cosmic threats, battling rogue factions, fear-powered Sinestro Corps members, and multiversal crises across the Emotional Spectrum.
Storia
The Green Lantern concept originated in 1940 with Alan Scott in All-American Comics #16, who harnessed green magic powered by the mystical Starheart. In 1959, DC reimagined the mantle as a science-fiction mythos in Showcase #22 with Hal Jordan.
Hal was a fearless test pilot who stumbled upon the crashed spaceship of Abin Sur, a dying alien Green Lantern. Sur's Power Ring selected Hal for his ability to overcome great fear, inducting him into the intergalactic Green Lantern Corps.
As the Corps expanded, Earth received additional recruits and backup Lanterns, including Guy Gardner and John Stewart. Following the tragic destruction of Coast City in 1994's Emerald Twilight, Hal Jordan suffered a mental breakdown, absorbed the Central Power Battery, and transformed into the villain Parallax. With the Corps destroyed, the last remaining Power Ring was given to comic artist Kyle Rayner, who carried the legacy alone for a generation before Hal Jordan was redeemed and the Corps was resurrected.

Evoluzione
Green Lantern debuted in 1940 as Alan Scott, a Golden Age hero operating with magic derived from a mystical green meteor known as the Starheart. In 1959, DC Comics radically transformed the character into a sci-fi icon with Hal Jordan, establishing the intergalactic Green Lantern Corps, planet Oa, and cosmic law enforcement. During the early 1970s, Dennis O'Neil and Neal Adams evolved Hal Jordan further in the "Hard Travelin' Heroes" era, pairing him with Green Arrow to address real-world social topics like drug abuse, racism, and political corruption.
The character underwent a dark transformation in 1994's Emerald Twilight when Hal Jordan turned into the villain Parallax following Coast City's destruction, leading to Kyle Rayner becoming the sole Green Lantern. In 2004, writer Geoff Johns revitalized the franchise in Green Lantern: Rebirth, redeeming Hal Jordan and expanding the lore to encompass the entire Emotional Spectrum (including Sinestro's Yellow Lanterns and the undead Black Lanterns). Modern comics introduced new legacy Lanterns such as Simon Baz, Jessica Cruz, and Jo Mullein, cementing Green Lantern as a diverse, legacy-spanning cosmic force.
Curiosità
* Alan Scott's original 1940 power ring was powered by magic from the mystical Starheart rather than cosmic space technology from Oa. * Teen Lantern (Keli Quintela) is an 11-year-old Bolivian prodigy who gained superhero abilities by hacking a Green Lantern power battery construct.
* During the 1970s "Hard Travelin' Heroes" comic run, Hal Jordan and Green Arrow traveled across America to tackle real-world societal problems such as drug addiction and social inequality. * Actor Nathan Fillion voiced Hal Jordan across multiple DC animated movies before being cast as live-action Guy Gardner in James Gunn's 2025 Superman film.
