The Flash (2023) is a multiverse-spanning superhero film directed by Andy Muschietti, marking the character's first solo cinematic adventure. The film serves as both a celebration of DC's film history and a pivotal closing chapter for the DC Extended Universe (DCEU).
Panoramica
Directed by Andy Muschietti and released in 2023 by Warner Bros. Pictures, The Flash is a central entry in the DC Extended Universe. The film stars Ezra Miller and explores the concept of the multiverse, bridging different eras of DC cinema by bringing back legacy characters such as Michael Keaton's Batman.
Trama
Barry Allen, the fastest man alive, decides to use his extraordinary speed to travel back in time to change the past and save his mother, Nora, from being murdered. However, his temporal meddling results in a catastrophic fracture in the timeline, trapping him in a reality where General Zod has arrived to terraform Earth and there are no superheroes to stand in his way.
In this alternate world, Barry encounters a younger, less experienced version of himself. Together, they must convince a retired, cynical Bruce Wayne to return to the cowl and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian, Kara Zor-El, who has been hidden away from the world. Barry must ultimately decide if his personal happiness is worth the destruction of the entire multiverse.

Produzione
The film’s production was one of the most complex in modern superhero history, spending nearly a decade in development hell. Warner Bros. first announced the solo film in 2014, but directors such as Seth Grahame-Smith, Rick Famuyiwa, and the duo John Francis Daley & Jonathan Goldstein all joined and left the project over creative differences. Finally, Andy Muschietti took over in 2019 with a script by Christina Hodson. The film had a substantial budget of approximately $220 million and utilized advanced CGI to create the 'Chrono-Bowl,' a visual representation of time that allowed the director to pay homage to past DC projects.
Accoglienza
The Flash received a polarizing reception from both critics and fans. While Michael Keaton’s return and the film's emotional depth were widely praised, the stylized visual effects and the controversies surrounding its lead actor impacted its public perception. Financially, the film struggled at the box office, grossing $271.3 million worldwide against high marketing and production costs. Despite this, it remains a landmark film for its ambitious attempt to unify decades of DC live-action media into a single narrative.
Da Collezione
For collectors, The Flash (2023) offered a wealth of high-quality merchandise, particularly through McFarlane Toys' 'DC Multiverse' line, which released figures for Barry Allen, Supergirl, and multiple versions of Batman. The 'holy grail' for many collectors is the 1/6th scale Michael Keaton Batman figure by Hot Toys, along with their massive scale Batmobile. Value trends suggest that items featuring Keaton's likeness are the most sought-after, as they represent a historic return to the role after 30 years.
