Released in 1983, Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi is the climactic finale of the original trilogy. Directed by Richard Marquand, it depicts the final battle between the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire, concluding the initial Skywalker saga.

Panoramica

Return of the Jedi is the third film released in the Star Wars saga, directed by Richard Marquand and produced by Lucasfilm. Released in 1983, it serves as the final chapter of the original trilogy, resolving the conflict between the Jedi and the Sith.

Trama

The story opens with a rescue mission to Tatooine, where Luke Skywalker and his allies attempt to free Han Solo from the crime lord Jabba the Hutt. Following the rescue, Luke returns to Dagobah to complete his training with Master Yoda, who confirms the shocking truth of his lineage and reveals the existence of another Skywalker.

Meanwhile, the Rebellion prepares for a massive strike against a second, more powerful Death Star being constructed over the forest moon of Endor. As a strike team led by Han Solo lands on the moon to disable the station's shield generator, Luke surrenders to Darth Vader in a desperate bid to redeem his father. Produzione

Production began in 1981 under the working title 'Revenge of the Jedi,' a name George Lucas later changed because he felt revenge was not a Jedi trait. Filming occurred between January and May 1982 at locations in England, California, and Arizona. The film was notable for introducing the forest moon of Endor, which was originally conceived in early drafts as the 'Green Moon' of the Imperial capital Had Abbadon. The script was a collaborative effort between Lawrence Kasdan and George Lucas, with early versions featuring a more villainous Darth Vader and the potential death of Han Solo.

Accoglienza

Return of the Jedi was a massive commercial success, becoming the highest-grossing film of 1983 with over $374 million in its initial run. While some critics noted the lighter tone compared to its predecessor, it is widely celebrated for its technical mastery and emotional closure. The film has seen several theatrical re-releases, including a significant 'Special Edition' in 1997 that introduced updated CGI and the 2023 40th-anniversary limited release.

Da Collezione

For collectors, this film is a cornerstone of the hobby. Modern brands like Hasbro continue to produce figures under 'The Vintage Collection,' while high-end manufacturers like Hot Toys and Sideshow Collectibles create premium sixth-scale figures of iconic characters like Endor Luke and the Emperor. One of the most sought-after 'grail' items for collectors is the original 'Revenge of the Jedi' branded merchandise, produced by the toy line before the title was changed, making these items extremely rare and highly valued on the secondary market.
