POWER RANGERS LIGHTNING COLLECTION
The Power Rangers Lightning Collection is a 6-inch scale action figure line produced by Hasbro from 2019 to 2023. Designed for adult collectors, this anthology series spans the entire franchise history—from television seasons to BOOM! Studios comic books—featuring high articulation, realistic body sculpts, and digital actor head scans.
Cronologia
Overview
The Power Rangers Lightning Collection is Hasbro's flagship 6-inch action figure line dedicated to the Power Rangers franchise, launched after Hasbro acquired the brand from Saban Brands in May 2018.
Aimed squarely at adult collectors and positioned alongside lines like Marvel Legends and Star Wars: The Black Series, the Lightning Collection replaced Bandai's previous Legacy Collection.
Retailing originally at $19.99, the line was designed as an anthology series that draws characters from across all television eras—including the Zordon Era, Post-Zordon, Disney, Neo-Saban, and Hasbro eras—as well as comic book originals from BOOM! Studios. Figures in the line stand approximately 6 inches tall (about half an inch shorter than Legacy figures) and feature sculpts with real-world proportions rather than overly muscular body types. Each figure includes over 20 points of articulation, character-specific weapons, swappable hands, translucent combat effect pieces, and an alternate unmasked civilian head created using Hasbro's Photo Real digital scan technology.
History
Hasbro unveiled the Lightning Collection at Power Morphicon 6 in August 2018, revealing a prototype of the Mighty Morphin White Ranger along with a 55-second creation video featuring actor Jason David Frank. The line officially launched at retail in April 2019 with Wave 1.
Over the next four years, the line rapidly expanded through 15 mainline figure waves, Deluxe monster releases, vehicle packs, store-exclusive two-packs, 1:1 scale wearable helmets, and specialized sub-lines such as the 30th Anniversary Remastered series and the 1:144 scale Zord Ascension Project (ZAP) Megazords.
The collection also produced comic and gaming crossovers with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Street Fighter, and Cobra Kai. In mid-2023, following the release of Wave 15 and Tommy Oliver's Master Morpher, Hasbro placed the Lightning Collection on official hiatus due to shifting market demands, production cost re-evaluations, and quality control challenges. Production on new waves ceased through 2024 and 2025. In 2026, Hasbro phased out direct production of collector action figures and partnered with Playmates Toys, who unveiled the Power Rangers Collector Series as the spiritual successor line.

Collecting
For Power Rangers collectors, the Lightning Collection is considered the most complete and articulate line in the franchise's history. Unlike previous toy lines that concentrated strictly on core TV teams, Hasbro embraced expanded universe lore by producing figures based on BOOM! Studios comic books, crossover events, monsters, and deep-cut villain variants.
Because Hasbro officially paused the line in mid-2023 before transitioning master toy licensing to Playmates Toys in 2026, the Lightning Collection stands as a defined, closed run. This status has elevated secondary market value for retail exclusives (such as Walgreens, Target, and Hasbro Pulse releases), convention two-packs, and complete team sets, making individual sealed figures and rare army builders highly sought after.
Trivia
* Wave 10's In Space Pink Ranger figure was delayed four months to January 2022 so Hasbro could correct a factory paint error on her arms.
* Hasbro introduced the line at Power Morphicon 6 alongside a 55-second behind-the-scenes video demonstrating the digital creation of the White Ranger figure. * The line extended beyond Power Rangers canon to produce official crossover figures with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Street Fighter, and Cobra Kai. * The Zord Ascension Project Megazords were engineered at 1:144 scale and included micro-figures of the Rangers.
