Cronologia
Panoramica
Banpresto, a major subsidiary of Bandai integrated into Bandai Spirits in 2019, produces a specialized range of Mobile Suit Gundam collectible figures positioned primarily as prize items and store lottery releases.
Unlike traditional articulated action figures or plastic model kits (Gunpla), Banpresto focuses on pre-assembled, display-oriented static statues and detailed display pieces.
The line features several distinct figure sub-brands: MASTERLISE delivers high-detail, fixed-pose character statues of famous anime pilots like Char Aznable and Amuro Ray; BUSTISAN concentrates on intricate mobile suit head and torso busts such as the RX-78-2, Nu Gundam, and Sazabi; and the Internal Structure & DX series highlights internal mechanical components beneath translucent armor components. Distributed across game centers and through Ichiban Kuji lotteries globally, these items provide accessible yet high-tier display options for mecha collectors.
Storia
Banpresto's history with the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise dates back to the late 1980s following the company's renaming from Hoei Sangyo in 1989.
In its early years, Banpresto contributed directly to the franchise by developing and publishing video game titles, including the SD Gundam World and Compati Hero crossover series starting in 1987, as well as arcade action games like SD Gundam Psycho Salamander no Shinwashi in 1991.
Over the decades, Banpresto evolved to become Bandai's dedicated brand for arcade prize figures and Ichiban Kuji blind-box store lotteries across Japan and international markets. Following its organizational integration into Bandai Spirits in 2019, Banpresto elevated its Gundam figure line with premium statue categories like MASTERLISE and BUSTISAN, expanding further into thematic releases such as the multi-part Universal Century Saga lotteries and the global GUNDAM ASSEMBLE miniature line in 2026.

Collezionismo
Collecting Banpresto's Mobile Suit Gundam items offers a distinct avenue within mecha collecting, focusing on statues and busts rather than model kit building or posable action figures.
Because top-tier items—such as MASTERLISE pilot figures and BUSTISAN mobile suit busts—are distributed as limited lottery prizes (such as Prize A or Prize C) through Ichiban Kuji lotteries, top prizes often command strong aftermarket demand. Collectors value the line for providing large display footprints, sharp paint applications, and unique concept designs (such as the Internal Structure translucent armor figures) at accessible prize-level price points.
Curiosità
* Banpresto was originally established in 1977 under the name Hoei Sangyo before adopting the Banpresto name in 1989.
* The BUSTISAN line is specifically engineered to showcase isolated, highly detailed display busts of mobile suit heads and upper torsos. * Although Banpresto merged into Bandai Spirits in 2019, its iconic brand logo continues to appear on prize figure packaging. * The GUNDAM ASSEMBLE miniature line features pre-assembled game pieces scaled to approximately 5cm tall.
