Biografia

Jessica Drew is a versatile Marvel hero who has worked as a private investigator, S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, S.W.O.R.D. operative, bounty hunter, mercenary, and member of the Avengers. Genetically mutated as a child through arachnid DNA and a genetic accelerator, she woke into adulthood with superhuman abilities and no memory of her past.

After breaking free from the terrorist group Hydra, she resolved to use her abilities to fight for justice.

Throughout her heroic career, Jessica has overcome severe setbacks, including a period where she lost her powers and a later abduction where she was held captive by Skrulls while their Queen, Veranke, impersonated her on Earth during the Secret Invasion. Following her rescue, Jessica re-established herself in the superhero community by joining Steve Rogers' Avengers team and hunting rogue aliens alongside S.W.O.R.D. She later took part in multiversal conflicts with the Spider-Army, operated a private investigation business alongside Ben Urich and Roger Gocking, and raised her son Gerry while balancing her vigilante life.

LO SAPEVI?Marvel created Spider-Woman in 1977 primarily to secure the trademark to the name before rival publishers could.

Storia

Born in London, England, Jessica Drew moved as a toddler with her parents, Jonathan and Miriam Drew, to Wundagore Mountain in Transia. Her father, a geneticist working with Herbert Wyndham (the High Evolutionary), discovered uranium deposits on their property to fund their genetic research.

However, prolonged exposure to the uranium left young Jessica critically ill with radiation poisoning. To save her life, Jonathan Drew injected Jessica with an experimental serum crafted from spider blood and placed her inside a genetic accelerator built by Wyndham. Kept in stasis for decades, Jessica aged at a severely slowed rate.

When she finally emerged as an adult, she felt rejected by Wundagore's New Men and entered a nearby village. After accidentally killing her boyfriend with an uncontrollable bioelectric blast, she fled an enraged mob and fell into the hands of Hydra leader Otto Vermis. Brainwashed by Mentallo and trained in espionage and combat by Taskmaster, she was molded into a deadly assassin until her refusal to execute S.H.I.E.L.D. Director Nick Fury led her to defeat Vermis and regain her independence.

LO SAPEVI?Jessica Drew was the first female Marvel hero to star in her own animated TV series in 1979.

Evoluzione

Spider-Woman has undergone several distinct eras of narrative reinvention since her debut in 1977. Initially conceived to secure Marvel's trademark over the name, Jessica Drew was introduced as a tragic figure burdened with lost memories, deadly bioelectric powers, and manipulation by Hydra. During her first ongoing series in the late 1970s and early 1980s, she evolved into the 'Dark Angel of San Francisco,' balancing her heroic career with work as a private investigator and bounty hunter. The 2000s marked a major renaissance for the character.

Re-established by writer Brian Michael Bendis, Jessica became a central protagonist in *New Avengers* and *Secret Invasion*, where her narrative was defined by the traumatic realization that Skrull Queen Veranke had stolen her identity. Overcoming this ordeal, she reclaimed her autonomy by working with S.W.O.R.D. and the main Avengers roster. In the 2010s and 2020s, her character grounded itself further by embracing street-level detective work, single motherhood, and key leadership roles across multiversal *Spider-Verse* crossovers and feature films.

Da Collezione

Spider-Woman represents a staple character for Marvel collectors. Key comic book issues—including her debut in *Marvel Spotlight #32* (1977), her primary ongoing series *Spider-Woman Vol.

1*, and major crossover appearances like *Secret Invasion*—remain prized items among comic enthusiasts. Her breakout animated and cinematic adaptations, notably her high-profile appearance in 2023's *Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse*, have further solidified her status as an enduring pop-culture icon across print and screen.
