SINESTRO
Thaal Sinestro of planet Korugar is the arch-nemesis of Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps, created by John Broome and Gil Kane. Once honored as the universe's greatest Green Lantern, he was stripped of his ring and banished after establishing a totalitarian dictatorship on his homeworld, subsequently forging a yellow power ring and founding the terror-wielding Sinestro Corps.
Cronologia
Biografia
Thaal Sinestro was originally chosen by the Guardians of the Universe to serve as the Green Lantern of Sector 1417. Renowned for his honor and fearlessness, he kept his sector nearly free of crime and was widely regarded as the greatest of all Green Lanterns. Recognized for his supreme combat prowess, he was assigned by Ganthet to mentor promising rookies, including his final student, Hal Jordan, with whom he forged a close partnership.
However, Sinestro's obsessive drive for absolute order led him to establish a ruthless dictatorship over his homeworld of Korugar. When Hal Jordan discovered that Korugar's citizens were forced to worship Sinestro under oppressive laws, the population rebelled. Hal testified against Sinestro before the Guardians of the Universe, leading to his trial on Oa, stripping of his green ring, and banishment to the Antimatter Universe of Qward.
Exiled on Qward, Sinestro allied with the Weaponers to forge a yellow power ring fueled by fear, capitalizing on the Green Lanterns' yellow impurity. Over the decades, Sinestro's role evolved from galactic tyrant to master strategist, orchestrating the corruption of Hal Jordan via Parallax, establishing the Sinestro Corps, briefly wielding the White Light of Life during the Blackest Night, and repeatedly clashing with and rejoining the Lantern Corps.
Storia
During his early tenure in the Green Lantern Corps, Sinestro's closest friend and confidante was Abin Sur, whom he regarded as a brother. Sinestro married Abin's sister, Arin Sur, and they had a daughter named Soranik Natu. Before his death at the hands of Atrocitus, Abin confided in Sinestro about the apocalyptic prophecy of the Blackest Night.
Sinestro brought Atrocitus to justice on the prison planet Ysmault, where Atrocitus foretold Sinestro's eventual fall from grace. As stress mounted over maintaining total order in Sector 1417, Sinestro resorted to increasingly tyrannical tactics.
To protect their infant daughter from anti-Sinestro dissidents, Arin secretly gave Soranik away to Karoll and Dgibb Natu before dying under unknown circumstances. Sinestro later located Soranik, secretly tracking her accomplishments as she became a doctor and eventual Green Lantern. His totalitarian rule on Korugar eventually ended when Hal Jordan exposed his crimes to the Guardians, sparking Sinestro's eternal vendetta against Jordan and Oa.

Evoluzione
Created by John Broome and Gil Kane in 1961 (*Green Lantern* vol. 2 #7), Sinestro was originally depicted as a straightforward galactic criminal banished to Qward for enforcing a dictatorship on Korugar. Armed with a yellow ring created by Qwardian Weaponers, he served as Hal Jordan's primary adversary throughout the Silver and Bronze Ages. Following his execution in 1988 (*Green Lantern* #222), Sinestro's spirit inside Oa's Central Power Battery was linked to Parallax, orchestrating Hal Jordan's breakdown in 1994's *Emerald Twilight*.
Writer Geoff Johns substantially expanded Sinestro's depth in *Green Lantern: Rebirth* (2004–2005), recontextualizing him as a complex anti-hero driven by an extreme philosophy of order. This era saw him found the Sinestro Corps (2007), briefly become a White Lantern during *Blackest Night* (2009), and regain a Green Lantern ring in 2011's *War of the Green Lanterns*. In modern continuity—spanning the New 52 solo series *Sinestro* (2014–2016), DC Rebirth, and the *Dawn of DC* initiative—Sinestro has wielded Parallax energy on Warworld, transformed into an Ultraviolet Lantern, and transitioned into a central live-action figure in the DCU series *Lanterns*.
