Biografia

Rocket Raccoon is a genetically engineered cyborg hailing from Halfworld in the Keystone Quadrant. Originally serving as a ranger and security chief at the Halfworld Asylum for the Criminally Insane, Rocket protected the facility alongside his fellow anthropomorphic animal companions.

After leaving Halfworld, he operated across the cosmos as a thief, mercenary, bounty hunter, and pirate, eventually forming a legendary partnership with the flora colossus Groot. Rocket's life took a hero's trajectory when he was recruited by Peter Quill (Star-Lord) during the Phalanx invasion in *Annihilation: Conquest*.

He subsequently became a founding member of the Guardians of the Galaxy, even stepping up as team leader when Quill was absent. Sanctioned by the Galactic Council as defenders of the cosmos, Rocket and his teammates have fought off cosmic threats ranging from Thanos to the forces of the Cancerverse. In cinematic adaptations, Rocket is voiced by Bradley Cooper with set reference performance by Sean Gunn. Introduced as a hot-tempered bounty hunter and weapons master, Rocket overcomes deep trauma to become the emotional core of the team, ultimately assuming leadership of a new iteration of the Guardians of the Galaxy.

LO SAPEVI?Rocket Raccoon's creation and original name ('Rocky') were directly inspired by the Beatles' 1968 song 'Rocky Raccoon'.

Storia

Rocket's origins trace back to Halfworld, a planet-sized hospice established by alien humanoids to care for mentally ill patients known as Loonies. When funding was cut, the humanoids left behind automated robot stewards. After a nearby star went nova, the resulting radiation granted sentience to the robots.

To create a cheerful atmosphere for the patients, the robots used genetic engineering and cybernetics to convert companion animals into intelligent, upright caretakers. On Rocket's first birthday, he underwent traumatic genetic alteration—modifying his DNA in a manner akin to how the Kree created the Inhumans—and was fitted with extended limbs and a supporting metal exo-skeleton.

Armed with custom gear and his starship, the *Rakk 'n' Ruin*, Rocket became the fastest gun in the Quadrant, keeping peace alongside his partner Wal Rus and his love interest, Lylla the otter. When the powerful psychic villain Barry Bauman (the Star-Thief) threatened to breach Halfworld, Rocket engineered a bio-organic lock system requiring the cellular codes of all senior wardens. To ensure Bauman could never break out, Rocket intentionally wiped his own memories via immersion therapy and left the planet, embarking on a life in deep space while retaining only fragmented, whimsical memories of his past.

LO SAPEVI?Rocket underwent painful genetic modifications on his first birthday that altered his DNA in a manner similar to how the Kree created the Inhumans.

Evoluzione

Created in 1976 by Bill Mantlo and Keith Giffen, Rocket Raccoon originally appeared as "Rocky" in a backup story in *Marvel Preview* #7, heavily inspired by the Beatles' 1968 song "Rocky Raccoon". He entered mainstream Marvel Earth-616 continuity in 1982 via *The Incredible Hulk* #271 and starred in his first self-titled miniseries in 1985, illustrated by Mike Mignola, which established his whimsical yet tragic background as a ranger protecting asylum patients on Halfworld.

In 2007 and 2008, writers Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning fundamentally revamped Rocket during the *Annihilation: Conquest* event and the subsequent *Guardians of the Galaxy* relaunch. Rocket transitioned from an obscure whimsical character into a gritty, deadpan military strategist and heavy-weapons tactical mastermind. His partnership with Groot was firmly cemented during this era, making him an indispensable pillar of Marvel's cosmic roster. With his 2014 Marvel Cinematic Universe live-action debut, voiced by Bradley Cooper, Rocket evolved into a global pop-culture phenomenon. His MCU arc deepened his tragic origins under the High Evolutionary and highlighted his journey from a defensive, abrasive mercenary to a compassionate leader who takes charge of the New Guardians of the Galaxy.

Da Collezione

Rocket Raccoon's surge in popularity across comics, video games, and feature films has made him a high-demand subject for Marvel collectibles and action figures. Collectors actively seek out representations that highlight his distinctive visual design: a small anthropomorphic frame equipped with high-tech armor, a cybernetic left eye, and oversized cosmic heavy artillery.

Notable physical collectibles in gaming history include his physical-to-digital figure for *Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes* (2014) as well as various *Lego Marvel Super Heroes* minifigures. As a cornerstone character in Marvel's modern cosmic line, Rocket figures remain a central fixture across Marvel gaming updates, animation, and Guardians of the Galaxy merchandise worldwide.
