ROBIN KING
The Robin King is a sadistic, alternate version of Bruce Wayne from the Dark Multiverse created by Scott Snyder, Greg Capullo, and Peter J. Tomasi for DC Comics' Dark Nights: Death Metal. Unlike the primary Earth-0 Batman, this Bruce was born inherently violent, murdering his own parents in Crime Alley and spending his youth engineering bespoke, highly lethal countermeasures to slaughter every superhero. Serving as second-in-command to The Batman Who Laughs, he acts as one of the most formidable antagonists during the war for the Omniverse.
Cronologia
Biografia
The Robin King is an inherently sociopathic variant of Bruce Wayne hailing from an unspecified universe within the Dark Multiverse. Unlike the mainstream Bruce Wayne, whose trauma drove him to protect life, this young Bruce was born hyper-violent and sadistically cruel from birth. After personally executing his parents Thomas and Martha Wayne in Crime Alley, he framed mugger Joe Chill for the crime and subsequently murdered Officer Jim Gordon and his butler Alfred Pennyworth when they discovered the truth.
Clad in a twisted costume featuring an 'R' emblem and a crown of thorns, he adopted the mantle of the Robin King. Over the following years, he accumulated immense wealth and built a utility belt packed with specialized biological, magical, and technological countermeasures tailored to murder every superhero on his world. After his reality disintegrated, he was recruited by The Batman Who Laughs, who forcibly converted him into a 'Groblin'.
Bruce secretly maintained his free will by swallowing a specialized pill, impressing The Batman Who Laughs—now elevated to the Darkest Knight—who appointed him as his right-hand partner and commander during the invasion of Earth 0. Stationed at Castle Bat, the Robin King deployed his lethal arsenal against Earth's surviving defenders, including Barry Allen, Harley Quinn, Swamp Thing, and Jonah Hex. He served as the final line of defense during the climax of Dark Nights: Death Metal, engaging Batman in a fierce duel before the forces of the Dark Multiverse were purged following the restoration of the Omniverse.
Storia
Bruce Wayne was born into Gotham City's elite Wayne family, but exhibited violent, disturbing behavior from infancy. Although Alfred Pennyworth recognized Bruce's sadistic nature, he hid the child's violent outbursts from Thomas and Martha Wayne out of personal attachment and a naive hope that Bruce would grow out of it.
The turning point occurred during a family trip to the movie theater. When mugger Joe Chill confronted the family in Crime Alley, young Bruce reacted immediately by slashing Chill's throat with a hidden blade, taking his gun, and shooting his own parents dead. Bruce lied to the police, framing Chill for the parricide.
When Officer James Gordon uncovered evidence proving Bruce's guilt, Bruce executed Gordon with a crossbow. Alfred attempted to subdue Bruce with a tranquilizer gun and record a confession, but Bruce burst through the window in a garb bearing an 'R' symbol and a crown of thorns, beating Alfred to death with a bust. Inspired by a robin singing outside—whose song sounded like 'cheer'—Bruce resolved to become a Robin who would conquer other heroes and spread his dark message to the youth.

Evoluzione
The Robin King represents a dark conceptual evolution of the Batman mythos, embodying Bruce Wayne's deepest fear that he was always fundamentally broken and that his parents' tragedy was merely an excuse for an innate villainy. Conceptualized by Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo, he evolved from a background 'Groblin' concept into a standalone primary villain whose complete backstory was fleshed out by writer Peter J. Tomasi and artist Riley Rossmo in 2020.
Across the Dark Nights: Death Metal event, his character evolved from a grotesque childhood origin into a major tactical commander overseeing Castle Bat. His arc served as a dark mirror to Batman's core trait of contingency planning: while Prime Earth's Batman prepares non-lethal plans to stop rogue allies, the Robin King spent his youth designing horrific, highly customized execution devices to slaughter every hero in existence. Following Death Metal #7, he remains an iconic figure within DC's Dark Multiverse lore.
Da Collezione
In the world of action figure collecting, the Robin King stands out as one of the most sought-after modern dark Batman variants from DC Comics. His primary figure was released in August 2021 by McFarlane Toys within their official 7-inch scale DC Multiverse action figure line as part of the Dark Nights: Death Metal wave.
The McFarlane Toys figure captures his comic design with high detail, including his crown of thorns, dark fabric textures, sculpted suit details, alternate display hands, and character accessories. A major draw for action figure collectors was that the Robin King figure included a Build-A-Figure (BAF) piece needed to assemble the massive Darkfather figure. Beyond 7-inch action figures, the character is featured prominently in DC multiverse reference handbooks and official promotional event merchandise.
Curiosità
Bruce adopted the mantle of 'Robin' after hearing a robin bird singing outside Wayne Manor, equating its cheery noise to how he felt after murdering his parents.
