Biografia

Princess Tiana is an intelligent, highly talented, and ambitious young woman living in 1920s New Orleans. Making history as the first African-American princess in the Disney Princess franchise, Tiana begins her journey as an extremely dedicated waitress working multiple jobs day and night to realize her late father's dream of opening a restaurant called Tiana's Palace.

Unlike traditional fairytale heroines, Tiana relies on strict work ethic and personal integrity rather than wishing upon stars. Her life takes a dramatic turn when she meets Prince Naveen of Maldonia, who has been turned into a frog by the voodoo sorcerer Dr. Facilier. Upon kissing him to break the spell, Tiana is unexpectedly transformed into a frog herself.

The pair must navigate the Louisiana bayou to find a way to return to human form. Throughout her journey, Tiana demonstrates great resourcefulness, bravery, and leadership. After defeating Dr. Facilier, returning to human form, and marrying Prince Naveen, she successfully purchases an old sugar mill and opens Tiana's Palace, later expanding her business into a community food cooperative called Tiana's Foods.

LO SAPEVI?Tiana was originally named Maddy and worked as a chambermaid before public feedback led Disney to rename her and make her a waitress.

Storia

Tiana grew up in New Orleans with her mother Eudora, a seamstress, and her father James. From a young age, Tiana developed a passion for cooking while preparing gumbo with her father. James instilled in her the belief that while wishing on stars is fine, true success requires hard work and perseverance.

After James passed away, Tiana carried this belief into adulthood, working tirelessly to save money to buy a sugar mill for her dream restaurant. Behind the scenes, Tiana was developed by directors Ron Clements and John Musker, with Mark Henn serving as supervising animator.

Early in development, the character was named Maddy and worked as a chambermaid. Following public criticism, Disney renamed her Tiana and changed her profession to a waitress. The character's personality and storyline were heavily inspired by real-life New Orleans chef Leah Chase. Animator Mark Henn also integrated physical traits from voice actress Anika Noni Rose—including her dimples and left-handedness—and Disney intern Jaimie Milner into Tiana's final character design.

LO SAPEVI?Animator Mark Henn based Tiana's facial features, dimples, and left-handedness on her voice actress, Anika Noni Rose.
