Biografia

Matthew 'Matt' Murdock is a central figure in Marvel Comics, operating primarily in Hell's Kitchen, New York as a blind defense attorney with extraordinary abilities.

Blinded by chemical and radioactive waste during a childhood accident while saving a pedestrian, Matt lost his sight but gained an incredible trade-off: all of his remaining senses were heightened to superhuman levels.

This sensory amplification grants him a unique 'radar sense' that allows him to map his environment with pinpoint accuracy. In Earth-616 continuity, Matt balances his Catholic faith and legal profession with a vigilante persona known as Daredevil, 'The Man Without Fear', fighting crime syndicates such as The Hand and Wilson Fisk. In alternate dimensions like Earth-65, Matt's path takes a villainous turn: after being trained as a ninja assassin by The Hand, he serves as chief legal counsel to Wilson Fisk before usurping his syndicate to become the ruthless Kingpin of crime.

LO SAPEVI?Matt Murdock originally wore a yellow-and-black suit when he debuted in 1964 before switching to red in issue #7.

Storia

Matt Murdock was born in Hell's Kitchen to Jack Murdock, a former boxer and laborer, and Maggie Murdock. Following an accident involving a truck spill that left his mother in a coma (and blinded Matt with chemical waste), Jack worked tirelessly in rigged boxing matches controlled by the mobster Silvermane to cover Matt's rising medical expenses.

Frustrated by the corruption, Jack broke his agreement to throw a final fight, knocking out his opponent and winning the match out of pride, which led Silvermane's enforcers to murder him in retaliation. Orphaned and coping with his newly amplified senses, young Matt was discovered by Stick, a blind martial arts master who recognized his potential.

Stick trained Matt to master his abilities and fight crime syndicates. While main-universe Matt channelled his skills into studying law at Empire State University to become a defense lawyer and vigilante, Earth-65 Matt was forced into the Hand following Stick's death, growing into a deadly assassin in Japan before returning to New York as Wilson Fisk's top advisor.

LO SAPEVI?In the Spider-Gwen universe (Earth-65), Matt Murdock worked as the lawyer for the Storm family and eventually became the Kingpin of Crime.

Evoluzione

Created in 1964 by Stan Lee and Bill Everett, Matt Murdock began his comic book journey wearing a yellow-and-black suit, carrying out standard superheroic adventures. By issue #7, artist Wally Wood introduced his famous all-red costume. The character experienced a seminal transformation in the early 1980s under Frank Miller, who redefined Daredevil into a gritty film-noir hero, introducing key lore elements like Elektra, Stick, and the Hand.

Creators such as Ann Nocenti, Kevin Smith, Brian Michael Bendis, Ed Brubaker, Mark Waid, Charles Soule, and Chip Zdarsky continued to expand his story across celebrated runs such as 'Born Again' and 'Devil's Reign'. Outside of standard comics, Matt Murdock's narrative evolved significantly across television, film, and parallel realities. In live-action adaptations, he evolved from Rex Smith's 1989 TV movie and Ben Affleck's 2003 film into Charlie Cox's MCU portrayal, emphasizing Catholic guilt, street-level vigilante justice, and legal advocacy. Meanwhile, alternate reality comics like Earth-65 subverted his narrative entirely, turning Matt from a selfless crimefighter into a sinister ninja assassin who usurped Wilson Fisk's crime empire.
