Kale is a pure-blooded Saiyan hailing from Planet Sadala in Universe 6, serving as a dedicated member and protégée within Caulifla's gang. Unlike the inherently aggressive and assertive Saiyans typical of her race, Kale is exceptionally timid, soft-spoken, and burdened by low self-confidence. Constantly believing herself to be ordinary and weak, she is often looked down upon by other Saiyan warriors.
However, behind her anxious exterior lies a vast latent potential that unleashes whenever her deep bond with Caulifla is threatened. Recruited into Team Universe 6 for the Multiversal Tournament of Power by Cabba and Caulifla, Kale plays a critical role in her universe's survival.
When pushed to her emotional limit, she unlocks a destructive Super Saiyan (Berserk) state capable of powering through attacks from high-tier opponents, including Goku's Super Saiyan Blue Kamehameha. During the tournament, she fights alongside Caulifla, eventually utilizing Champa's Potara earrings to fuse into the fused warrior Kefla. In subsequent battles, including the defense of Planet Sadala against the Core Area Warriors in the Universal Conflict, Kale continues to fight alongside her team. Kale's canonical origins in the manga establish that she was a lost girl taken in by Caulifla, an act of compassion that inspired Kale's unyielding gratitude, affection, and loyalty toward her leader.
Functioning as Caulifla's henchwoman on Planet Sadala, Kale initially wore a long hooded robe while secretly using her hidden speed and power to protect Caulifla from ambushers without anyone noticing. Behind the scenes, Kale was originally conceived by Toei Animation staff as a female homage to the movie character Broly.
In Toei's initial unreleased background concept—discovered within the source code of Toei's website—Kale was depicted as being constantly looked down upon by Cabba, who irritated her into releasing her anger and unlocking a berserk Super Saiyan state. When Toei presented Kale's design to series creator Akira Toriyama, he chose to design Caulifla to serve as a companion and mentor figure to go along with her. This addition fundamentally altered Kale's backstory, shifting her emotional triggers from Cabba's irritation to her deep bond with Caulifla.
