HYPNO
Hypno, full title 'Hypno: Heroic Psychic Hypnotist', is a heroic warrior and psychic hypnotist belonging to the Rulers of the Sun faction. Originally conceptualized in 1985 by Olmec Toys, he was officially integrated into Mattel's Masters of the Universe franchise in 2021. Fighting alongside Sun-Man and He-Man, Hypno uses his mesmerizing voice, hypnotic staff, and precognitive powers to defend Eternia.
Cronologia
Biografia
Hypno, known canonically as Hypno: Heroic Psychic Hypnotist, is a hero and mentalist within the expanded Masters of the Universe universe. As a member of the Rulers of the Sun faction led by Sun-Man, Hypno travels to Eternia where he aligns himself with He-Man and the Heroic Warriors.
Together, they fight to safeguard Castle Grayskull and defeat evil forces across the realm, including Skeletor and the Snake Men. On the battlefield, Hypno serves as a powerful strategic warrior due to his distinct mental abilities.
Gifted with a mesmerizing voice, he can hypnotize opponents to take control of their minds and peer directly into the future. Styled in bright orange and yellow wrapped armor along with a Helmet of Hypnosis, Hypno carries his iconic swirling Wand of Mesmerization into combat and is frequently accompanied by a loyal falcon companion.
Storia
Hypno's real-world creation and fictional origin are deeply connected. In 1985, entrepreneur Yla Eason founded Olmec Toys after her young son voiced concern that he could not be a superhero because he was African American.
Eason created Sun-Man and the Rulers of the Sun to provide positive, diverse superhero representation in a 5.5-inch toy line intended to compete with and complement Masters of the Universe. During the mid-1980s, Hypno was designed as a psychic warrior with mind-control capabilities and a pet falcon.
However, while several Rulers of the Sun figures hit retail shelves, Hypno was never produced or released to stores in the 1980s, remaining strictly an unproduced prototype in Olmec Toys' promotional archives. In 2021, Mattel partnered with Yla Eason to officially acquire integration rights, bringing Hypno into official Eternian lore as a heroic ally traveling to Eternia to assist He-Man.

Evoluzione
Hypno's journey spans nearly four decades, evolving from an unreleased 1980s toy prototype into an official canonical member of the Masters of the Universe franchise. Conceived in 1985 by Yla Eason for Olmec Toys' ground-breaking Rulers of the Sun line, Hypno sat for over 35 years in archival limbo as a lost concept figure that never reached store shelves during its original era.
His status changed dramatically in 2021 when Mattel partnered with Eason to officially absorb the Rulers of the Sun characters into Masters of the Universe canon. Hypno was updated from a standalone prototype idea into an Eternian lore ally. By early 2023, he transitioned from lore to physical reality with his first-ever action figure release in MOTU Origins Wave 12 and his debut in official comic literature.
Da Collezione
In toy collecting history, Hypno holds a legendary status as a long-lost prototype that took nearly 40 years to finally receive a retail release. Created during the 1980s by Olmec Toys, the figure was never manufactured for stores during the vintage era, making original archival images a subject of fascination among action figure enthusiasts.
In late 2022 (with retail release in early 2023), Mattel finally produced the figure under the Masters of the Universe Origins line (Wave 12, sub-line Rise of the Snake Men). Built on the retro 5.5-inch body with 16 points of articulation, the figure accurately brought Olmec's mid-80s concept to life with bright orange-and-yellow armor, a removable Helmet of Hypnosis, swirling Wand of Mesmerization, silver falcon, and custom packaging art by Axel Gimenez and Francisco Etchart.
