GRIZZLOR
Grizzlor is a monstrous, fur-covered man-beast from the Masters of the Universe franchise who serves as a wild warrior and prison guard for Hordak's Evil Horde. First introduced in Mattel's 1985 action figure line and minicomics, he has evolved across animated series and comics from an urban legend and mind-wiped brute into a staple Horde faction officer.
Cronologia
Biografia
Grizzlor is a monstrous, fur-covered man-beast who serves as a key brute-force enforcer for Hordak and the Evil Horde across the Masters of the Universe franchise.
Stationed on Etheria within the Fright Zone and Beast Island, he frequently oversees the Horde Prison, managing security devices and monitoring captives from his command room.
Though possessing terrifying physical strength and sharp claws, he is often depicted as a slow-witted henchman whose bumbling nature can prove to be as much of a hindrance as a help to Hordak's schemes. Across different Masters of the Universe storylines, Grizzlor fills various tactical roles. In early Eternian lore, he was believed to be an urban legend—a savage creature stalking the night—before being recruited by Hordak to battle He-Man and the Heroic Warriors. In modern animated iterations, he serves as a senior Horde Captain, technician, or front-line soldier alongside fellow Horde members like Catra, Scorpia, Leech, and Mantenna.
Storia
Grizzlor's origins vary across Masters of the Universe continuity. According to London Editions UK comics and Masters of the Universe Classics lore, he was originally a peaceful creature named Gur'rull hailing from the jungle planet Jungulia in the N24 galaxy. At age 428, he developed a sudden savage anger and found advanced weapons in a cave.
Playing with them like toys, he was spotted by Horde Prime's sata-spies, who mistook him for a dangerous warrior. Hordak beamed him aboard his ship, erased his memories of Jungulia, and renamed him Grizzlor to serve as his mindless warrior. In other media, Grizzlor's creation and past take on distinct forms.
In the 1985 Filmation series, Hordak implies Grizzlor is the product of Horde science and magic. In the 2002 animated series backstory, Grizzlor was part of the ancient Horde army that laid siege to Castle Grayskull before being defeated by King Grayskull and trapped in the dimension of Despondos. In the 2018 Netflix reboot, he was an early Horde recruit who helped raise the infant Adora after she was discovered by Hordak.

Evoluzione
Grizzlor has undergone continuous evolution since his 1985 debut. Initially introduced in Mattel minicomics as a mindless, nocturnal urban legend terrified of his own reflection, he was softened in Filmation's 'She-Ra: Princess of Power' into a dim-witted prison warden stationed at Beast Island.
UK publications gave him a rich origin story as an alien named Gur'rull from planet Jungulia whose memories were erased by Hordak—a tragic backstory later formalized in the 2010 'Masters of the Universe Classics' line. When the franchise was rebooted in 2002, Grizzlor was reimagined as an imposing ancient conqueror who invaded Eternia alongside Hordak before being trapped in Despondos. The 2018 Netflix series 'She-Ra and the Princesses of Power' pivoted his character into a tech-savvy Horde Force Captain who was present during Adora's infancy. Recent releases like 'Masters of the Universe: Revolution' synthesize these eras, honoring his vintage fur-covered look while keeping him anchored to Hordak's elite army.
Da Collezione
Grizzlor is a standout figure for MOTU collectors due to his unique design incorporating real faux fur across his torso. The original 1985 vintage Wave 4 action figure produced by Mattel remains a beloved classic. In 2006, NECA released a non-articulated 'staction' mini-statue offering an aggressive, highly detailed fantasy sculpt for the 200X era. Mattel expanded his lore in 2010 with the highly articulated 'Masters of the Universe Classics' figure, which included his canonical bio.
In recent years, Mattel has produced several high-demand collector items. In 2022, Mattel Creations released a standalone MOTU Origins Grizzlor exclusive with faux fur, packaged with the 'Trial of Grizzlor' minicomic. This was followed by the 2024 Masterverse Princess of Power Grizzlor figure and the 2025 MOTU Origins Cartoon Collection Grizzlor, which mirrors his Filmation animation look and includes the 'Future Tense' minicomic. Tabletop collectors also hunt for his miniature play piece in CMON's 'Clash for Eternia'.
