Biografia

Drift is a disciplined Autobot swordsman guided by a strict samurai code of honor. Once a violent warrior operating under the Decepticon allegiance and mercenary bounty hunting groups, he rejected his dark past in favor of a spiritual and honorable lifestyle.

Calm, level-headed, and deeply composed, Drift acts as a strict yet compassionate mentor to his Mini-Con pupils, Jetstorm and Slipstream, often behaving as a stern father figure while instilling martial discipline in them.

Throughout his appearances in comic continuities and animated series such as Robots in Disguise, Drift transitions from a solitary figure into a devoted team player. Whether serving on Rodimus's crew aboard the Lost Light or aiding Bumblebee's team on Earth, Drift brings incredible combat skill, strategic wisdom, and unwavering loyalty to the Autobots. Despite his high expectations for his allies, he harbors deep compassion for his friends and students.

LO SAPEVI?Drift was created specifically for IDW Publishing comic books in 2008 before being adapted into feature films and animated series.

Storia

Before adopting his samurai title, Drift was known as Deadlock, a ruthless Decepticon officer under Commander Turmoil and a student of the Decepticon Shadow Raker. Driven by having no home or companions, he also joined the mercenary bounty hunter group known as the Ronin.

However, during a mission to the planet Athena that nearly destroyed its moon, Deadlock recognized the group's utter lack of conscience, destroyed their vessel, and deserted them. Deadlock's life reached a turning point after being left for dead on an alien world, where he was rescued by the neutral faction known as the Circle of Light.

Under the leadership of Dai Atlas and the mentorship of a knight named Wing, Deadlock rejected his gun-toting past, adopted a samurai code of honor, and renamed himself Drift. Taking the Mini-Cons Slipstream and Jetstorm away from Shadow Raker's influence, Drift set out as a reformed samurai, eventually incurring a life debt to Bumblebee on Earth and dedicating himself fully to the Autobot cause.

LO SAPEVI?In Transformers: Age of Extinction, Drift was voiced by Oscar-nominated actor Ken Watanabe and transformed into both a Bugatti Veyron and a helicopter.

Evoluzione

Drift's character trajectory represents one of the most prominent redemption arcs in modern Transformers lore. Starting as Deadlock, a ruthless Decepticon officer and mercenary soldier, his turning point occurred when he abandoned his former allegiances after witnessing the senseless destruction of Athena's moon. His spiritual enlightenment under the Circle of Light transformed him from a firearm-wielding soldier into an honor-bound samurai who relies strictly on blades and martial meditation.

Beyond his narrative growth, Drift has evolved significantly in visual design and media adaptations. Created for IDW Publishing as a comic-original homage to samurai archetypes, he was later brought into live-action cinema by director Michael Bay as a Triple Changer voiced by Ken Watanabe, shifting from a blue Bugatti Veyron to a red Mercedes-AMG GT R. In television animation, Robots in Disguise reframed him as a strict mentor guiding two Mini-Cons, cementing Drift as a versatile multi-media icon.

Da Collezione

For action figure collectors, Drift offers a distinct blend of comic-original design and cinematic samurai aesthetics. Hasbro has produced multiple figures of Drift within its flagship Studio Series line, accurately reproducing his live-action movie appearances from Age of Extinction (featuring his Bugatti Veyron and helicopter modes) and The Last Knight (featuring his Mercedes-AMG GT R alt-mode), fully equipped with detailed samurai armor and sword accessories.

Beyond traditional transforming toys, model kit manufacturers and third-party brands frequently target Drift's classic IDW comic look. Licensed model maker Blokees revealed official IDW-inspired Drift figures in their Transformers Galaxy Version 11: The Lost Light line. Whether collectors seek his original 2008 IDW Generations release, movie-accurate Studio Series figures, or modern snap-together model kits, Drift remains a highly sought-after grail for fans of samurai-styled Transformers.
