Cronologia
Biografia
Donatello, often affectionately called Donnie, is the brainy technological genius, scientist, and inventor of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Named after the 15th-century Italian Renaissance sculptor, Donatello was co-created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, making his debut in May 1984.
Distinguishable by his purple bandana and wooden Bō staff, Donnie embodies the iconic catchphrase description: 'Donatello does machines.' While every bit as trained in ninjutsu as his brothers under Master Splinter, Donatello stands out for his extraordinary intellect.
He designs, builds, and maintains the team's advanced gadgetry and vehicles—such as the iconic Turtle Van and Turtle Blimp—often constructing high-tech equipment out of discarded materials found in the sewers. Across various mediums, Donnie serves as the strategic mind of the group, bridging the gap between ancient martial arts tradition and cutting-edge modern science. Whether hacking alien computer systems or engineering mutant antidotes, his intelligence is as critical to the team's survival as his combat mastery with the Bō staff.
Storia
Created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, Donatello made his first comic book appearance in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1, published by Mirage Studios in May 1984.
Originally depicted in dark, gritty black-and-white art alongside his brothers—all wearing identical red bandanas—Donnie was established early on as the group's practical technician and engineer.
In 1985, Donnie starred in his first solo spotlight, Donatello Micro-Series #1. This seminal issue introduced the artist Kirby and a mystical warp crystal, expanding Donatello's story into realms of science fiction and interdimensional adventure that would define his character development for decades to come.

Evoluzione
Over four decades, Donatello has evolved from a dark, red-bandana-wearing ninja in Mirage Comics into a pop-culture icon of tech brilliance. The landmark 1987 animated series redefined him by bestowing his signature purple bandana, soft-spoken personality, and inventing knack. Comic writers have frequently pushed Donnie to technological and physical extremes. In Image Comics' 1990s Volume 3, he suffered paralyzing injuries and became a techno-organic cyborg.
Later in IDW Publishing's 2015 run, a brutal beating by Bebop and Rocksteady crushed his shell, forcing his consciousness to temporarily inhabit the robotic body of Metalhead. Modern screen adaptations have continuously reframed his personality and design. The 2012 CGI series added his distinctive gap-toothed look and a crush on April O'Neil, while 2018's Rise of the TMNT reimagined him as a softshell turtle utilizing high-tech armor. Most recently, 2023's Mutant Mayhem grounded him as an anime-loving teenage tech enthusiast.
