Cronologia
Biografia
Gustave Kateb, known by his codename 'Doc', is a French GIGN tactical medical officer and defender in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege.
Born into an affluent Parisian family with long-standing military and medical traditions, Kateb is a genuine altruist who views counter-terrorism service as a noble calling to protect innocent civilians.
He serves as a high-empathy field surgeon specializing in toxicology and ecotoxicology. After serving in the French Army Special Forces Command and joining Team Rainbow in 2015 to combat the White Masks, Kateb was chosen by Rainbow Director Harishva 'Harry' Pandey in 2022 to lead squad Wolfguard. Wolfguard was formed as a specialized team dedicated to humanitarian operations where minimizing collateral damage was mandatory. Following the termination of Rainbow by GSAC in 2024, Kateb returned to active duty with the GIGN.
Storia
Born on September 16 in Paris' 16th arrondissement, Gustave Kateb was raised in a wealthy family of French and Algerian descent. While studying medicine at Université Paris Descartes, Kateb volunteered for Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) during his second year.
Witnessing the severe squalor and desperate needs on frontline aid missions sparked his passion for medical work, leading him to decline a lucrative private practice at age twenty in favor of joining the French Defense Health Service.
Kateb authored studies on biological agents for the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) and participated in United Nations missions, including Opération Turquoise in Rwanda and MINUSCA in 2014. During a frontline operation in East Africa, local militia stormed the hospital where Kateb was stationed and executed all of his patients. This horrific trauma altered his philosophy, convincing him that saving lives required the ability to act with both a scalpel and a bullet, which prompted his transfer to combat duty with the GIGN.

Evoluzione
Doc's character trajectory spans significant narrative and gameplay evolution across the Rainbow Six franchise. Narratively, he transitioned from a dedicated frontline doctor with Médecins Sans Frontières into a combat surgeon following a tragic militia raid in East Africa. Within Rainbow, Doc originally served as a core GIGN defender during operations against the White Masks before being appointed captain of squad Wolfguard in 2022, leading Rainbow's specialized humanitarian unit.
Following the termination of Rainbow by GSAC in 2024, Doc returned to active duty with the GIGN while appearing in multi-franchise crossovers like Arknights. In gameplay, Doc has received ongoing balance updates to adjust his role as a defender. His MPD-0 Stim Pistol was updated to provide high-volume 200 HP healing, quick distance revives, and decaying overheal mechanics. His loadout expanded with options like the Bailiff 410 secondary shotgun for rotational destruction, while tactical interactions evolved alongside new operators—including the inability to heal non-living targets like Skopós's V10 Pantheon Shells.
Curiosità
• Doc was the first Operator in Rainbow Six Siege capable of performing a unique Operator action (self-healing/reviving) while down but not out. • Doc is certified to practice medicine in ten different countries through Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders).
• Doc's official in-game profile originally listed his birth year as 1977 before the year was removed by developers. • Doc monitors Spetsnaz operator Finka's (Lera Melnikova) chronic neuropathy (CMT) to ensure it does not hinder her combat performance. • Doc quotes the Renaissance physician Paracelsus ('The dose makes the poison') when reflecting on the balance of taking lives to save lives.
