Cronologia
Biografia
Chun-Li is a central protagonist in Capcom's Street Fighter media franchise, created by Akira "Akiman" Yasuda alongside Akira Nishitani. Debuting in 1991's Street Fighter II: The World Warrior, she made history as the very first playable female character in a mainstream 1v1 fighting game.
She is an expert Chinese martial artist specializing in Tai Chi, Chuan Fa, and Kempo, as well as a highly disciplined officer and agent for Interpol. Driven by a deep sense of justice, Chun-Li's primary motivation throughout much of her career is investigating and dismantling the evil syndicate Shadaloo. Her relentless pursuit is deeply personal, as Shadaloo's leader, M.
Bison, was responsible for the murder of her father, Inspector Dorai. Alongside fellow investigators and military allies such as Guile and Cammy White, Chun-Li routinely places herself on the frontlines against international crime. Following the eventual downfall of Shadaloo during the events of Street Fighter V, Chun-Li retired from active service at Interpol. By Street Fighter 6, she resides in Metro City's Chinatown, where she works as a revered Kung Fu instructor, community protector, and guardian to her adopted ward, Li-Fen.
Storia
Chun-Li was raised by her father, Dorai, a highly respected police inspector.
Inspired by the Peking Opera, Dorai began training Chun-Li in martial arts at a very young age, passing down his own techniques as well as moves learned from his close friend, the master martial artist Gen.
Her life changed drastically when Inspector Dorai suddenly went missing while investigating the covert international crime syndicate Shadaloo. Upon discovering that M. Bison had murdered her father, Chun-Li dedicated her life to bringing down Shadaloo and avenging Dorai's death. She joined Interpol as an international agent, honoring her father's legacy as a law enforcer and wearing a modified blue qipao in memory of her late mother, who had passed away during Chun-Li's early childhood.

Evoluzione
Chun-Li underwent extensive visual and thematic revisions during her development. Designed by Akira "Akiman" Yasuda and inspired by Tao from the 1983 anime film Genma Wars: Harmagedon, early 1988 concept sketches depicted her as an 18-year-old Northern Praying Mantis fighter wearing a white qipao and trousers. To give her stronger visual impact and competitive presence among male fighters, Akiman revised her outfit into a blue leotard with sheer pantyhose, heavy iron arm bracelets, and her trademark muscular thighs.
For the prequel Street Fighter Alpha series, designer Eri Nakamura created her younger athletic unitard outfit. Narratively, Chun-Li evolves from an Interpol agent driven by personal vengeance in Street Fighter II and Alpha to a seasoned operative in Street Fighter IV and Street Fighter V. After taking part in the definitive downfall of M. Bison during Street Fighter V's "A Shadow Falls" story arc, she transitions from active law enforcement to civilian mentorship. In Street Fighter 6, she resides in Metro City's Chinatown as a retired veteran, taking on a motherly role toward her ward Li-Fen while teaching Kung Fu and exemplifying self-improvement and balance.
Curiosità
* Chun-Li's name means "spring beauty" in Mandarin, though her name during 1988 planning stages was "Zhi-Li", meaning "wisdom and beauty". * Her signature spiked iron arm bracelets weigh between 7 to 10 kg (15–22 lbs) each, serving to build physical strength and stabilize her balance during kicks.
* Character designer Akira Yasuda modeled Chun-Li after the character Tao from the 1983 anime box office hit Genma Wars: Harmagedon. * In her Street Fighter V arcade ending, it is revealed that Chun-Li is surprisingly inept at cooking, accidentally burning her food while attempting to follow instructions. * Actor Jackie Chan famously dressed up as Chun-Li in a live-action parody fight scene in the 1993 film City Hunter.
