Cronologia
Biografia

Baymax is an inflatable healthcare companion robot created by Tadashi Hamada at the San Fransokyo Institute of Technology. Built with a soft vinyl exterior, his primary goal is to improve healthcare around the world.
Programmed to activate upon hearing a cry of distress, Baymax provides immediate medical assistance, diagnosis, and care, deactivating only when his patient states, "I am satisfied with my care." His artificial intelligence operates on a specialized healthcare chip containing Tadashi's ideals.
Following Tadashi's tragic death, Baymax becomes a devoted companion and emotional anchor to Tadashi's younger brother, Hiro Hamada. Although initially incapable of feeling human emotion, Baymax gradually develops empathy, curiosity, and a distinct personality. When Hiro upgrades him with rocket thrusters, a rocket fist, carbon-fiber armor, and karate programming, Baymax takes on a dual role as a superhero and core member of Big Hero 6. Despite his powerful physical enhancements and combat capabilities, Baymax maintains a strict non-violence protocol, upholding Tadashi's belief that helping people should never involve causing harm. He serves as the moral compass of the team, guiding Hiro through grief and revenge toward true heroism.
Storia

Baymax originally originated in Marvel Comics in 1998, created by writer Steven T. Seagle and artist Duncan Rouleau for Sunfire & Big Hero 6 #1. In his Marvel origin, Baymax was built by young prodigy Hiro Takachiho as a hydro-powered "synthformer" bodyguard.
This version contained the brainwave engrams of Hiro's late father, acting as a protective father figure who could shape-shift into a giant dragon or combat mecha. In 2014, Walt Disney Animation Studios completely reimagined Baymax for their animated feature film Big Hero 6.
Conceptualized by Tadashi Hamada as a prototype nurse robot, Baymax was built at San Fransokyo Tech using funding and equipment from the institute. His artificial intelligence was programmed based on a thesis by SFIT alumni Wendy Wower, utilizing a green cartridge chip that contains a caregiving matrix. Designed to be approachable and non-threatening, Baymax's soft vinyl body and marshmallow-like appearance were engineered specifically to comfort patients in distress.

Evoluzione
Baymax has undergone a dramatic transformation since his debut in 1998. Originally conceived as an aggressive, shape-shifting Marvel synthformer designed for combat, he was radically overhauled by Disney into a gentle, soft-spoken inflatable healthcare companion. This transition replaced heavy military artillery with medical diagnostic tools, defibrillators, and an empathetic caregiving matrix. Within Disney's canonical storyline, Baymax evolves emotionally and physically.
Functionally, he transitions from a simple stationary nurse to an advanced airborne superhero through Hiro's engineering. His physical form moves from an unarmored vinyl balloon to a green karate-fighting prototype, and ultimately into his iconic "2.0" red-and-purple battle suit equipped with rocket-fists and wings. Emotionally, Baymax evolves from a purely protocol-driven robot into an autonomous individual capable of deep affection and moral decision-making. He moves beyond blindly following orders to actively refusing commands that violate Tadashi's non-violent ethos, establishing himself as both a protective guardian and a true friend.
Da Collezione
Baymax has become one of Disney's most popular modern characters in the collectibles market. Physical collectibles initially took off with the release of Disney Infinity 2.0 in 2014, where Baymax was produced as an interactive figure depicted in his red-and-purple armored 2.0 superhero form. This figure allowed players to utilize his flight and rocket punch abilities in-game and remains a favorite among interactive figure collectors.
Over the years, Baymax's distinctive dual designs—his soft, unarmored white vinyl appearance and his armored superhero exterior—have led to a wide range of figure releases across different brands. Collectibles range from stylized Disney Tsum Tsum plushies and mini-figures (featured in Ralph Breaks the Internet) to detailed action figures and heavy-tank "Guardian" designs inspired by Disney Mirrorverse. With his appearance in theme park attractions like Tokyo Disneyland's The Happy Ride with Baymax and San Fransokyo Square at Disney California Adventure, merchandise and figures featuring Baymax continue to be highly sought after by Disney fans and action figure collectors alike.
