The War Machine Mark V, also designated as the Iron Patriot Mark II or Cosmic Iron Patriot, is an ultra-heavy assault armor engineered by Tony Stark during the Blip. It made its cinematic debut in the climactic final battle of Avengers: Endgame (2019) when Colonel James Rhodes needed maximum firepower against Thanos' forces.

La Scena

During the surprise missile strike on the New Avengers Facility launched by a time-traveling Thanos, James Rhodes' War Machine Mark VI suit is severely damaged, leaving him trapped beneath tons of collapsing rubble alongside Rocket Raccoon and Ant-Man. As Scott Lang transforms into Giant-Man to break through the wreckage, he retrieves the massive War Machine Mark V armor stored deep within the facility's emergency vaults. Rhodes suits up in this heavy-duty, star-spangled walking tank and emerges onto the battlefield to join the assembled MCU heroes in the final battle for the universe.

Significato

Built by Tony Stark during the five-year period following Thanos' snap, the Mark V represents the absolute peak of heavy defense armor technology created during the Blip. When Rhodey's primary Mark VI suit was destroyed in the compound attack, the deployment of the Mark V marked a dramatic escalation in hero firepower during humanity's last stand. Blending the heavy militarized design of War Machine with the patriotic motif of Iron Patriot, this suit represents the ultimate operational evolution of Rhodes' armor lineage in the Infinity Saga.

Design

Designed as a walking tank for planetary-scale apocalyptic conflicts, the Mark V features a heavily bulked silhouette fusing traditional dark gunmetal grey with the vibrant red, white, and blue motif of the Iron Patriot line. Its heavy armament includes dual shoulder-mounted cannons, twin back missile pods, forearm gauntlet cannons, micro-missile arrays, and a high-output chest Unibeam powered by an advanced Arc Reactor compatible with alien energy systems.

💡The Mark V suit was originally intended to be worn by Rhodey throughout almost the entire duration of *Avengers: Endgame*.
💡A scene shot between Rhodey and Nebula required them to share an intimate moment, but the actors could not stand close enough due to the immense bulk of the Mark V armor; concept artist Phil Saunders was brought in late in post-production to design the slimmer Mark VI suit, though the scene was ultimately cut from the final film anyway.
💡Designers briefly contemplated an idea where the slimmer Mark VI armor acted as an 'undersuit' that could transform or bulk up directly into the Mark V armor.
💡Early promotional artwork and merchandise originally designated this suit with the chest marking '006' and traditional gunmetal War Machine colors, as well as a white, black, and red Team Suit variant for the Time Heist.
💡The Mark V armor required a last-minute redesign into the slimmer Mark VI suit because its bulky shape prevented actors from standing close together in a deleted scene.
💡Early concept art depicted the Mark V suit adapted into a white, black, and red Quantum Realm Team Suit for the Time Heist.
💡Initial promotional material and early toys labeled this armor with the designation '006' before its official designation as Mark V was finalized.
