The Flash (Primal Age) is an alternate-universe incarnation of DC Comics' Scarlet Speedster created through a late 2018–2019 collaboration between DC Comics and Funko. Set in a barbarian sword-and-sorcery realm heavily inspired by 1980s dark fantasy franchises like Masters of the Universe, this version trades high-tech spandex for primitive leather armor and a magical Lightning Sword as a founding member of the Primal Age Justice League.

La Scena

La Scena

The Primal Age version of The Flash represents a fantasy realm ruled by magic and ancient beasts, featured in the Target-exclusive comic DC Primal Age 100-Page Giant #1 (published January 2019). Written by Marv Wolfman with art by Scott Koblish and colors by Tony Avina, the main story depicts The Flash uniting with Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Green Lantern to stop The Joker, Scarecrow, and King Shark from sinking Paradise Island (Themyscira) into the sea, laying the foundation for the Primal Age Justice League.

Significato

This iteration highlights the adaptability of The Flash's mythos by transposing the Scarlet Speedster into a retro 1980s fantasy homage. Created as part of a joint cross-media licensing initiative between DC Comics and Funko, the Primal Age universe expanded DC's multiverse into sword-and-sorcery aesthetics reminiscent of classic MOTU-style toy lines, giving fans a distinct barbarian take on DC's premier speedster.

Design

Reimagined for a primitive world of magic, the Primal Age Flash discards traditional spandex and modern materials for hand-stitched leather armor fitted over a heavy barbarian physique. His chest emblem displays the classic lightning bolt crest, complemented by a winged helmet, metallic wrist gauntlets, and heavy leather boots. Rather than relying purely on speed, his signature armament in this universe is a magical Lightning Sword.
