Dragon Ball

Super Saiyan 4 Vegeta is the primal apex of the Saiyan prince's power, characterized by a return to his Great Ape roots with crimson fur and a humanoid form. Unlike the golden-haired transformations, this state represents a unique evolutionary branch achieved through the concentrated power of Blutz Waves.

La Scena

La Scena

The transformation occurs during the climax of the Shadow Dragon Saga in 'Dragon Ball GT' Episode 59. Recognizing that his natural limits are insufficient to assist Goku against the overwhelming might of Omega Shenron, Vegeta accepts the help of Bulma and her technological ingenuity. Utilizing the Blutz Wave Generator, Vegeta is bombarded with concentrated energy that triggers a forced transformation into the Golden Great Ape. Unlike his previous uncontrolled rampages, Vegeta maintains his consciousness within the beast, allowing him to focus his spirit and condense his massive size down into the humanoid Super Saiyan 4 form. This pivotal moment marks the first time Vegeta bridges the power gap with Goku without the influence of external possession, appearing on the battlefield with his signature pride and a new, savage elegance.

Significato

Significato

Super Saiyan 4 represents a significant departure from the 'Super' line of transformations, prioritizing biological heritage over divine ki. For Vegeta, it is a moment of pragmatism and growth; his willingness to use Bulma's machine demonstrates a shift from his former isolationist pride toward a collaborative spirit to protect the Earth. Historically, this form was the 'anime-only' final evolution for decades, serving as the ultimate power ceiling for the character in the GT and 'Heroes' continuities. Its arrival was the necessary catalyst for the appearance of Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta, the only entity capable of truly challenging the Shadow Dragons. Furthermore, the modern introduction of the 'Limit Breaker' state in 'Super Dragon Ball Heroes' has renewed the form's relevance, showing that the Saiyan 4 lineage can still evolve to match the power of multiversal threats.

Design

Design

The aesthetic of Super Saiyan 4 Vegeta is a striking blend of bestial power and refined detail. Unlike Goku’s version, which features black hair, Vegeta’s SSJ4 hair retains a dark, brownish-black hue but remains much longer than his base style, flowing down his shoulders. His body is covered in thick, brick-red fur, leaving only his chest, face, and palms bare. One of the most piercing features is the change in eye color to a vivid aqua-blue, surrounded by prominent red shadows that give him a fierce, predatory look. In the 'Limit Breaker' variation seen in the Xeno timeline, this design is further enhanced by a distinct scarlet and purple aura and a deeper, more saturated hair color, symbolizing the transition from standard Saiyan Power to a transcended, limit-broken state.

💡Vegeta is the only Saiyan shown to require a Blutz Wave Generator to reach the form, as he lacked his tail during the GT era.
💡While Dragon Ball Daima (2025) featured a new Super Saiyan 4 design by Akira Toriyama for Goku, Vegeta only reached Super Saiyan 3 in that specific series.
💡The 'Super Full Power Saiyan 4 Limit Breaker' ritual is noted to be mechanically similar to the Super Saiyan God ritual from Dragon Ball Super.
💡In Dragon Ball Xenoverse, SSJ4 Vegeta was originally an exclusive pre-order bonus before becoming widely available.
💡Xeno Vegeta's Limit Breaker form features a unique scarlet and purple aura not seen in the original GT version.
💡Vegeta skips the Super Saiyan 3 stage entirely in the GT anime to jump from SSJ2 to SSJ4 via Blutz Waves.
💡Unlike Goku's black SSJ4 hair, Vegeta's hair in this form is often depicted with a brownish tint.
💡Akira Toriyama's official design sketches for the Super Saiyan 4 concept were featured in the 40th Anniversary Book in 2024.
💡SSJ4 Vegeta can absorb energy attacks like the Revenge Death Ball when at full power.
