In Masters of the Universe: Revelation (2021), Duncan / Man-At-Arms is re-imagined as a battle-worn military veteran voiced by Liam Cunningham. After being banished from Eternos for maintaining Prince Adam's secret identity, Duncan endures life in exile before returning to help reforge the Sword of Power and restore magic to Eternia.
La Scena
In Masters of the Universe: Revelation, Duncan's storyline reaches a dramatic crisis during Skeletor's unexpected assault on Castle Grayskull, which takes place during the formal ceremony knighting Teela as the new Man-At-Arms. In the ensuing clash, Prince Adam sacrifices himself to prevent the destruction of magic, revealing his secret identity as He-Man in his final moment. Enraged by the realization that Duncan had concealed Adam's secret for years, King Randor strips Duncan of his rank and banishes him from the royal palace. Stripped of his title, Duncan retreats to the aquatic city of Aquatica to live in quiet exile while caring for an ailing Orko, until Teela and Andra locate him to seek his assistance in retrieving the two halves of the Sword of Power from Subternia and Preternia.
Significato
This incarnation introduces a profound emotional depth to Man-At-Arms, transforming the classic stoic advisor archetype into a tragic figure burdened by necessary deception. Duncan's loyalty to Prince Adam's secret costs him everything: his military standing, his friendship with King Randor, and his bond with his adopted daughter, Teela. His forced retirement and exile redefine his purpose, proving that his heroism rests on his personal conviction rather than his royal title. By stepping back up to reforge the Sword of Power and later passing the mantle of Man-At-Arms to his successor Andra while becoming Man-Of-War in Revolution, Duncan completes a pivotal narrative arc of loss, redemption, and legacy.
Design
Rendered with anime-inspired styling by Powerhouse Animation Studios, the Revelation appearance presents Duncan as a visibly older warrior with grey-streaked hair, a full beard, and battle-worn features. He initially wears a updated version of his classic armor: bright orange plate armor over a teal chest harness and green suit, equipped with tech-enhanced shoulder guards and wrist gauntlets. Following his banishment to Aquatica, his appearance transitions to rugged survivor attire consisting of weathered cloth wraps, practical leather belts, and faded tunic layers suited for a life in exile. This rugged look directly contrasts with his eventual upgrade into the gleaming white-and-silver heavy mechanized 'Man-Of-War' armor featured in the continuation series Masters of the Universe: Revolution.
