Origins

The 'Origins' appearance represents Clamp Champ in his capacity as the Royal Bodyguard to King Randor and Queen Marlena. In this iteration, he is depicted as a master of stealth and situational awareness, possessing 'super-senses' of hearing and sight that make him an invaluable defender of Eternos. His presence in the 'Origins' mini-comics, such as those included with Wave 4, showcases him in active combat alongside He-Man and Ram Man, defending the palace from the forces of Skeletor and the Evil Horde.

This moment is historically significant as it revitalizes a character who broke ground in 1987 as the first Black action figure in the MOTU line. Within the 'Origins' narrative framework, this version solidifies his role as a tactical expert and mechanical specialist. It bridges the gap between his 1980s debut and his expanded role in later media, where he is destined to lead the Heroic Warriors. By being released as a 'Deluxe' figure, Mattel emphasized his importance, giving him enhanced weaponry and accessories that celebrate his 'Master of Capture' title.

The design of the 'Origins' Clamp Champ is a faithful reproduction of the 1987 vintage figure but with modular 'swap-and-play' functionality. He wears his signature blue and silver armor, featuring a prominent chest plate designed to withstand heavy combat. The classic spring-loaded 'Techno Clamp' has been redesigned as a larger 'Power Pincer' for the Origins line. Additionally, this version includes a second 'angry' head sculpt and interchangeable hands, allowing for more dynamic posing than the rigid posture of the 1980s original.
